Broncos
Nuggets
Rockies
Reds

Avs

Edit: As I scrolled through this I was surprised to see how many of us named the Reds. Baseball was my first love, and the Reds my first team. Pretty good following here for a franchise that basically hasn’t done anything in 30 years.

Other than Kentucky I only cheer for the military academies. West Point (army), Air Force, and Annapolis (navy). If Air Force plays any of the other two I cheer for AF because I went there for 2 years.

For all the talk about the treatment of college athletes I haven’t seen any hearts bleed for the young men and women at these schools who have signed up to serve their country. If you think college athletes should be further compensated, the military academies is where it should start imo.

What’s up with this Blues stuff? I’ve been a blues fan my whole life, idolized Brett Hull. Grew up a huge STL fan in everything. Are people really bandwagon jumping to the Blues?

You’re not allowed. STL has a special fan base in everything, one does not simply “join”.

As a Cubs fan, I saw the same thing after our WS. Take it as a compliment. Some were scared to show their fandom before and others are just bandwagoners. Real fans know other lifers. The takeaway is bandwagoners buy Tshirts and generate money for your team.

...also, new fans generate more buzz, and more buzz means more tv time. And as a hockey fan, TV time is hard to come by.

Ok, we're all Kentucky fans, but what other teams do you cheer for? I was born a Kentucky fan, but growing up in Indiana, I'm also a Notre Dame football fan (secondarily to Kentucky). I think usually folks are born into regional or family influences. Who else do you cheer for, and why? Pro or NCAA.

-Kentucky (NCAA, everything)
-Cubs (we don't have a MLB team is Indy)
-Lions (Barry Sanders was always on TV during the pre-Peyton Manning blackout years)
-Blackhawks (no Indy team, and they're an original six)

My list reflected that. Some fans pull for winning teams they have no real relationship with. I grew up in Kentucky, graduated from UK, and have lived the vast majority of my adult life in Colorado. My list reflects that. I pull for them in good times and bad, win or lose.

And I should have added Air Force as well. I pull for them except when they play CSU where I went to graduate school.

Grew up UK Basketball and Clemson football. UK football has been the most frustrating thing to follow over the years. Stoops is surprisingly better than I had ever hoped. Raiders, Bulls, Rangers for other sports.

I’m not much of a hockey fan but was living in the Bay Area in 2000 & went to San Jose to watch game 6 of the playoff series between the Blues & Sharks. It was an amazing environment; playoff hockey is no joke, lol. SJ was the 8 seed trying to close out the series against the 1 seed Blues. STL won 6-2 to stave off elimination but SJ pulled off the upset in game 7. I was surprised by the amount of STL fans in the arena. I know they’re rabid Cardinals fans but wasn’t expecting such a turnout for the Blues. There were quite a few good fights & I really enjoyed watching Pierre Turgeon & Chris Pronger. Pronger was freaking huge & was an enforcer.

NBA - None
NHL - StL Blues

Other colleges:
BB - Iowa State because of a friend of mine that's passionate about his Cyclones.
FB - Michigan
Women's Golf - UofL...Yes, I said it and I'm being serious and I know it's hard to believe but the UofL women's team is a classy bunch.

Cowboys and Braves. Growing up through the 90s before you had a ton of games on every Sunday, those were the teams we got on tv in SE KY. The titans weren’t around yet, out of the Cincy/Indy/StLouis markets.

Collegiate: idk why but I’ve always enjoyed Georgia football. not passionately, but if I had to pick a team I have no qualms w then it’s UGA. Basketball: everybody else can bow and kiss the ring.

Fist bump! Watched the Braves every game on TBS. Cowboys were awesome when I was little and that got my interest in NFL.

Udub basketball as a secondary college program. I know one guy up here who follows it with any zeal, and he's the only person I can talk college basketball with, so I try to keep up with them and pull for them for his sake.

And I like the Boston Red Sox. Was a big Manny Ramirez fan and that 2004 comeback against the Yankees was unreal in the ALCS

Same with me and @Pygmy Sasquatch and Clemson football. We are the only ones on here that follow both UK and Clemson.

I can’t wait to finish pilot training so I can move back to Colorado Springs. I miss it so much. Beautiful place to live with a lot of friendly people.

NBA - Could care less. Was a huge 76er fan in the 70’s and 80’s. Julius Erving (Dr. J) was by far my favorite player.
NHL - Preds I guess. Really don’t care.

I used to be a much bigger consumer of spectator sports, but as I've gotten older, I seem to have lost interest in most. I'm down to basically UK and UL in NCAA Basketball and Marshall's Thundering Herd in NCAA Football.

I used to be a huge Reds fan, as well as following the Raiders and Bengals. When the Blizzard was in Huntington, WV, I made several games. (Minor league hockey). Anybody remember them?

Never was a fan of the NBA, or NHL. For some reason I can't explain well, hockey is much better in person than on TV. Something about the game just doesn't seem to translate well to a small screen and/or single point of focus. At least that's my take.

Not a team event, but I was also a HUGE fan of the PBA back in the late 70s through the early 90s, unless I was out-of-town I tried to never miss the Pro Bowlers Tour on Saturdays. And I still follow the PGA, probably my only remaining spectator interest beyond the basic three I started this post with.

If you cheer for UK in basketball but another team in football/-just put my *** on ignore.

I will never discuss uk basketball with you.
Well, put me on your list then. I'm a fan of the basketball team, not the University. Couldn't care less what the FB team does. Or the baseball team, the rifle team or any other UK team except I once had a passing interest in the volleyball team some years ago, but only then because I knew one of the assistant coaches.

I didn't attend UK, and have no connection to the University that might lead me to being a fan of all its teams.

Here's my question: do you pull for any teams where you have no personal or geographic connection?

That's what I don't get. You see people listing teams from all over the place and you have to wonder if there are any real connections to teams on such a diverse geographic list.

If I haven't lived somewhere where there's a team I can't and won't call them 'my' team.

My list, in order:
UK Basketball

NFL - Jacksonville (I lived there for 6 years)
NFL - Tampa ( lived there for 9 years)
*obviously I didn't live in these cities due to the quality of their football teams...

Other UK sports (including football)

NBA - Kentucky Colonels (no close connections to a team so I'm screwed here...)

NHL - couldn't hardly care less
MLB - absolutely abhor baseball

Seems to me that in the normal case, loyalty to a sports team is developed when you're a kid. The loyalties from my own youth were UK and the Reds. Which means for the NBA, the NFL and virtually any other league, the team I like tends to be based on which players I like/follow, and tends to not be permanent, like the Cats/Reds.....

Allow me to give an answer to this. I'm a Colts fan because they drafted Peyton Manning and I just followed him to the NFL. As a kid, I just really liked his mental approach to one of the most physical sports we have.

But from about 4 years old until Peyton got drafted, I was a 49ers fan. My mom is from Cali, so there was that small connection, but that's not why I became a fan. I loved the 9ers because when I was 4 or so they were playing the Bengals in the super bowl and my dad and uncle were (are) massive Bengals fans. I was born an *******, so I was for the other team. San Francisco won on late game heroics and, as my dad tells it, he couldn't stand to be in the same room as me forlike two weeks because all I did was rub it in. I didn't even know what I was rubbing in, but as I said I was born a jerk. I guess you could say that imprinted on my young mind because I loved the 49ers for a large part of my childhood. Steve Young is still my all time favorite player, even though Manning caused me to switch teams.

Side story: my dad also likes the Patriots. Not because they win, but because they're prolific cheaters. The winning is good he says, but it's the shenanigans he really enjoys.
