What is wrong with Boston's shot ?

I’ve wondered the same. The problem might be between his ears...maybe his mental approach is messing with him. Seems like he damn near passed up every decent look from mid range only to drive it into 2 defenders and throw up some soft ****.

Didn’t he shoot decent percentages in HS?

Don't like his mechanics. They are never same. Sometimes he shoots with legs spread, other times he's shooting when coming down, then he'll drift, he is literally shooting with different form each time and it is hard to get a rhythm that way. Liked his layups/drives and his best play in the past 2 weeks was that steal before Half-didn't seem like much at time but cut lead to 7 and those 2 pts shifted momentum into a Half of an eventual 3 pt win.

Jon Sunvold made a great point about him trotting back on defense though--that's brutal to watch. He more than any player on this team lets not scoring get into his head and effect rest of his game. Needs to change that.

I really don't know what his shooting percentage was in HS maybe someone knows. Form looks good but as i said does not square up with his body is the only thing is can see.

Right now he definitely has lost all confidence . I’m sure the booing didn’t help .
You are right but do you think Cal's unsolicited comment that all the good Allen did was offset by his mistakes were any less damaging to Allen? It is one thing for the fans to boo you but it is another thing to be criticized unnecessarily in such a public way by your coach. Considering that he broke a 6 game losing streak for Cal just a couple days ago, he deserved better from Cal.

Looks to me, as others have said, he's not consistent with his mechanics and it seems like his jumper is very flat so he gets no roll. It's either dead center or it's off. Definitely not a soft looking shot. Throw in a couple or more badly forced shots a game and the kid is struggling and trying to make the spectacular play instead of the high percentage one.

That’s between him and Cal. Fans shouldn’t be booing individual players.

He’s lost all confidence. Some early season cupcakes would have been great for him.

Hoping he has a night when he lights it up. I think most fans simply fill bad for him right now.

I heard the booing, but saw a Vandy player tied up with someone. I’m hoping we were not booing a player for struggling.

Just watching the highlights again, he looked good attacking the rim and getting a few easy buckets. Maybe he just needs to focus on that for the time being.

Your comments make no sense. I expect more from the coach than I do fans. I can assure you that as a former AAU player Boston has heard and seen a lot worse.

The point being fans don’t know how hard kids work behind the scenes. Maybe Allen is completely ok with Cal calling him out like that. Maybe not. Lie, I said. That’s between him and Cal. And I’m sure if Boston continues to struggle he will catch some criticism.
Cal knows the players better than we do.

There were a few boo's. Magnified by the empty gym. There are times I want Cal to sit him, but boo'ing college players for anything other than a dirty play is uncalled for. Especially when it's your own!

Yeah he knows them so well that his assistant coach had to show him how to use the best shooter on his team. WOW!

Anyone remember that scene in the movie with Bobby Knight where he tells a guy he cannot shoot like that, and makes the guy go to the other end with a coach to change his shot while everyone else practiced?
I always thought that was a huge mistake to try to change a players shot this far in, but this guy needs to change it. The motion takes way 2 long and it comes from very low which will not cut it in college.
Seems like a TN player changed his over a summer, Schofield maybe? It can be done.

I think Cal is telling him to drive it, but he is not fast enough or elusive enough to rely on that, you gotta be able to hit a jumpshot or 3 pointer in college to open the floor for more.

If these players can handle being berated by Cal, a couple of boos shouldn't harm him.

It's just baffling what has happened to him.I watched many of his high school games and he played the best competition against many guys who are now NCAA players and did great. He just can't seem to do anything well at the moment.

I would say he shoots the ball to far out in front, but maybe that is what he has always shot that way and has been successful. Could be his is pressing to much and has his off hand to tight on the ball. I have to believe he will get it straightened out pretty soon. It would be nice if we could get Clarke and my favorite Brooks healthy.

Lack of discipline, patience, fundamentals, court awareness and poor shot selection.

this. Take good shots in rhythm and he will magically look like a decent shooter. Now he is scrambling to jack up something as soon as he gets the ball. I saw him pass on a few really bad shots tonight. He is slowly getting it.
