What is Marcus Lee's realistic ceiling?

I'm a huge Marcus Lee fan, on and off the court. As early as the Michigan game last year he showed some amazing potential. There were further glimpses this year.

But Cal seemed reluctant to play him in big games because of defensive break-downs. And he seems to have no offensive game beyond the lob and the stick back.

Can he develop at least a rudimentary set of moves to let him be a factor in a half court set? Can he get to where his defensive assignments come natural to him, and the break downs are nearly eliminated?

I really can't decide whether I think Marcus has it in him to make the leap to reliable starter.

Needs to get in the gym and work on a go to post move like the jump hook because nobody can jump with him on that shot.

His problem defensively is IQ and awareness. This can be worked out with some coaching and experience. He has the tools to be great on this end.

Offensively, i doubt he can develop anything. Its just so bad at this stage of his career. He looks uncomfortable in the post and is extremely thin, so he's not carving out any position. He can't shoot from the field or FTs, so he'll be somewhat of a liability at the end of games. Atleats he passes well.

I mean, i guess a realistic CBB ceiling is Jordan Mickey from LSU. Next season is his make or break year, because he's been given somewhat of a pass for his disappointing pay for a former McDonalds All American.

He appears to have less than great hands and definitely needs to develop a mid-range shot. Plenty of hard work and he can make a solid contribution. Experience is a great teacher and he's getting plenty going in to his 3rd year.

Draftexpress has him as a 1st round pick in 2016. So at least one "expert" thinks he has a high ceiling.

He needs to get a lot stronger.... a lot stronger. He can't be losing defensive rebounds, ever. Hopefully he will get the reps this next season and use that opportunity to earn even more playing time.

I believe Lee has the potential to be a great offensive threat, but only if he works on quick release shots, preferably bank shots, from 12 feet and closer. If he keeps defenders honest with these shots, he has a better chance for dunks off of one or two dribbles.

One of the main reasons we didn't win the title was because Lee and Dakari didn't improve one bit

during the course of the season, in fact they regressed. They were better last season as Freshmen.

Lee is progressing. He has gained weight and strength. He needs to work on his low and mid range game. He needs to camp out at the FT line this summer. I think he will be a hell of a ball player in time. Lee may be with us 4 years which is great. Lee wants to work at Apple and I think he is getting a marketing major. They all knew he was a project in the works. He is my favorite player on the team and I am glad he is coming back. GBB

My pick too. Riddick minus intensity but plus baffling brain farts, like losing an uncontested two handed rebound off the backboard.
