What is JoMo's ceiling at MState?

My biggest fear is he is at best a 7-5 ceiling type of coach. Its already proven that he wants/needs to get his guys in to run his system the way he wants it, which scares the hell out of me honestly because every year there is going to be a weakness on the team. Very rarely are we going to be elite to good at every position group on the field. And that's what it feels like he needs to win. He had that last year on defense and we saw the results.

Going 5-7, 6-6, 7-5 every year will only prolong his career here (not bad enough to get rid of him, not good enough to go somewhere else) and then you'll really see some disinterested, frustrated State fans.

Well it was 8-5 with best defense in college football and the 2nd best qb in MSU history soooo....

I’m gonna go with 8-5 will be about as good as he can do. 5-7 6-6 probably his norm. 4-8 on in between years

Hard to say. Ed Orgeron has totally changed my perception of coaches. It’s possible that guys can become better coaches over the course of their careers. Moorhead could easily tank and be fired within the next year, or he could eventually figure it out and be really successful here.

I don’t feel like all the hype surrounding his hire and his track record at Fordham and Penn State was just totally unfounded. The guy has been a good coach at other places, there’s just a disconnect here at the moment. If he can weather this storm and stick around for a few years, I honestly think he might be OK in the long run. But he’s got to get some things figured out pretty quickly or his tenure won’t last a whole lot longer.

Yeah he could possibly turn it around but at the moment he looks completely frazzled, lost, and very defensive. I don’t think that’s how you change and get better.

What any coach's ceiling would be at MSU. A consistent 6 or 8 wins with a 9 or 10 win season (including bowl) every 5 or 6 years.

I am going to say this again. The Offensive Line HAS to be physical, intelligent, and mobile. We can’t seem to get those qualities in O Line here for more than 1 or 2 guys at a time. Recruiting and signing 3 star O Linemen from Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana negates the intellect to grasp assignments and maintain focus. to a degree, but they take a lot more development than Penn State O linemen would because of the geographic area they recruit in.

I agree with this. Last year may well be the best team he ever has at state.

Last year was his ceiling. Typically a good coaching staff will provide a successful result 2-3 years after they leave a job. But somehow joe has turned that into 0.
