Tony Perez is a HOF first baseman and member of the back-to-back WS champs in ‘75 and ‘76. Big Dog was the anchor in those lineups. Taking nothing from Votto, I’d take Perez in his prime over Votto in his. The game was different, so it’s really hard to compare.

Votto is the best 1B in Reds history. Would I take Perez in his prime over the Votto weve had the last year or so? Lol of course. I think some of you forget just how damn good Joey was to get the contract hes got.

Not to take anything from Votto, but give me the 'Big Dog"...Tony Perez

I thought his nickname was “Doggie” and not “Big Dog”? Either way, he was probably the best clutch hitter on the Big Red Machine. IMO, he had more clutch bass hits than any other player.
