What if Kentucky got an MLB team named the Kentucky Batcats. Logo of a wildcat with bat wings or something. Blue and white of course.

Would you trade in your baseball team and support them?

I can’t do it. But wondering who would become a fan and interested.

** edit: I would root for them as hard as I’ve rooted for any second team I ever had. And I never had any so.

It would be great to get a MLB team in Kentucky. I would support them and pull for them until they played the Cardinals. I have been a STL Cardinal fan since I was 8 years old.

That’s how I feel as a cardinal all of my 34.

It’s comin. K, Roy, and Self should all be gone within the next 3 years.
i’m not worried about none of those dudes on the hardwood I just know they get better treatment come game time from the stripes. Part of this is because cal isn’t in the good ole boy club.

nope. Reds mean more to me than any team, including UK basketball. If I was gonna bandwagon, I would’ve followed in your path already. If you’re a diehard, you can’t change

I would probably root for them as a side team. If they were American League maybe I could find the justification.

eh I don’t plan to live in Kentucky much longer so it won’t matter to me much. I grew up watching the Reds with my dad, my mom grew up going to games (she’s from Cincinnati)

I also love baseball history so I couldn’t root for a team that hasn’t been around at least 100 years. I collect Reds baseball cards from the 1800s to today, etc

I’ve got a lot of reasons to love the Reds.

Not sure why but I think this would be one of the best teams in baseball day 1.

Both the Reds and the Bengals had an unexpectedly pleasant offseason. The Reds have been fun to watch last couple of years and are set up for another fun season. That’s all you can really ask for.

If they were in the AL then I could get on board. If they were in the NL Central itd be pretty damn tough. No team gives me the goosebumps going to a game in person like the Reds. I love em. If this new Kentucky franchise came out guns blazing and the Reds kept doing for the next 20 yrs what theyve done the last 20, yeah, I would seriously consider. Think about all those Orioles (err Browns) fans who are now Nats fans.

I dont think I could ever quit the Reds. But I could have a 2nd team if they were KY based. My now ex gf was a big Astros fan and I started cheering for them and was happy to see em win the WS. And that was in spite of decades of Reds-Astros acrimony.

YES. I would love ANY pro team in Kentucky. Seriously, you are telling me the greatest fanbase on earth (BBN) don't have 1 pro team? We don't deserve one?? I'd support a pro baseball team no matter what, and so would all of BBN once it was proven to be real, and not the same old talk pretending but we never get the team. BBN would, I believe it. We would support the team.

Same. Grew up going to STL. STL fans back to my great grandparents. Huge collector of cards as well. Favorite player Griffey, but only collect him in Seattle. 90’s kid he’ll always be a Mariner to me don’t shoot. Griffey, Ozzie, Musial, and Mantle. A team surrounded by those would be some cray ****.

nothing like spring training. I remember being a kid and staying in St. Petersburg Fla chasing down Ozzie Smith and Todd Zeil to get autos.

Love kentucky sports, but there’s nothing like baseball.

No. I pick a team and I never change. Like the same baseball and football teams since I was 6-7. And UK even before that. Never was an nba fan.

This. Been a cubs fan since I was 6. Always rooted for the brewers in the al. When they moved I had to give them up. No al team for me.

Joey Votto contract! Need I say more?
Joey earned his money. Top 10 1B of all time. Absolutely the greatest Reds 1B. Its easy to complain now that hes getting money he was promised years ago when he was in his prime. I may be young but theres something to be said in this day and age for a "company" to make a promise to its employees and doing right by said employee and honoring that agreement.

No, Im not advocating doing so to the "company's" detriment. A better example of what youre going on about was Homer Bailey.

Sorry, but he's not better than Tony Perez. Honestly, I have no interest in the MLB after all these over paid player's. I did love seeing the National's win it all after Harper left and got his big $!

misconception. Baseball always has this issue and has lasted longer than any sport regardless. It’ll never die.

MLB had a great opportunity to really make something happen with this virus. How the hell they didn’t have mlb start back in June is beyond comprehension. It’s a sports starved time frame robbed of nba nhl ncaa titles mlb being naturally “socially distant” should have been played the last two months. A big swing and a miss for a sport that needs fans.

Couldn't do it, not a chance. I have been a Reds fan longer than a UK Basketball fan. I was at 4192 when I was 5 years old. I didn't really even care about basketball until late '80's and really started following UK after Laettner shot.

I would support the KY state team but not if they were playing the Reds...could count on that.

I would have to agree here and I am a huge Perez fan. I have watched a lot of the BRM and know quite a bit of Reds history even though I wasn't around during their run.

Votto has some historically absurd seasons statistically. If he could get a title it will be the icing on the cake. He should already have another MVP. 2017 was complete crap...

Much worse contracts than what Votto inked. In reality it was a good deal....they just missed their chance in 2012....were best team in baseball. Hoping they can have a great start to shortened season. Took off Friday for Opening Day. Cannot wait...

This would be a tough scenario in terms of fandom, but I'd still be a Cardinals fan myself also. I'm the same way about the history, but if the team relocated to Kentucky, a team like the Orioles, who were the St. Louis Browns for 50 years or something, they would have that history still in theory. Interestingly, there was a Louisville Colonels team in the MLB in the 1800s, featuring Honus Wagner even, but the team was cannibalized by the Pittsburgh Pirates owner.

I don't think it would count as being a bandwagon fan though if they moved to our state. Bandwagon fans to me, are like the Cubs fans that were all of a sudden everywhere once they were good in 2015, or Red Sox fans a few years ago.

Good overall post. And yes, as a Cubs fan, I was like where were you guys through a lifetime of heartache? Red Sox fans were the worst though. Cubs and Red Sox fans used to commiserate together. The second the Sox won one, their noses went straight up in the air and became insufferable.
