....that the most important recruiting class for Scott Frost is actually Riley's class from last year?

You read that right. The 2018 recruits are important but if Frost is going to get this thing turned around and quickly, lots will be riding on his ability to develop Riley's last class.(2017)

I think he has his work cut out for him too. With the rumors that guys lower on the depth chart just stood around at practice it means that most of these dudes barely got any real work in this year. If back ups were indeed standing and watching I could probably venture to guess that the redshirts were sitting there with the mobile phones playing Candy Crush. I imagine this year is going to be a big wake up call for all involved as some laziness is going to need to be weeded out.

The good news is that it was a decent class with some talent. The bad news is that they probably wasted a year.

Thoughts?

Every recruiting class is important. It's going to take time for SF to turn the ship around, but it will happen eventually. And yes, I have no way of knowing that.

I think you could say in general, the current roster all together is the most important recruiting class. Can't overlook guys experience that have already played at the college level. There are obviously guys that won't fit into Frost's system, but there are quite a few that would fit nicely into it. For the guys that would fit into it, hopefully Frost can get them to buy in. If they are mentally checked out and aren't open to what Frost wants to run, then it will probably be best they go their separate ways. Obviously Frost hasn't had time to get to know the current roster, but after the bowl game he will need to focus on the current guys as well as closing out the 2018 recruiting class.

Take a look at Wisconsin's classes for the past few years. They are supposedly very mediocre as are Iowa's. If Scott is the coach we think he is, talent on hand will not stop him at least within the B1G West. My concern has more to do with the toughness factor. We used to be the bullies most of the time and are now often the bullied. Can the guys in the program flip that script by next Fall seems to me to be the real question. Our new S&C coach has a big job ahead starting in a couple weeks. Of course, being the baddest guy is more than just lifting. It's attitude. That may take time to develop.

I think its going to take time to get the culture right.......however getting it better could happen really quick. I totally expect harder work and more effort beginning early and showing on the field immediately. But to get to the point where we have strong internal leadership and drive from the players like we did 20 years ago will be a while.

"Attitude"....Agreed. Both obstacles are big but the mental one is probably bigger than the physical. Lots of work for this staff. Hopefully Moos is working on whatever preparations are needed while the staff is in Florida.

It shouldn’t take long to get players on board or say bye. It’s not hard to see that. This is not a 10 year plan. There’s enough talent to compete in the west, IF/WHEN he has the qb ready for his offense

Wouldn't a good coach be capable of adjusting his offense to fit his players? I swear I have read that somewhere before.

That being said, the people who think the qb is gonna be carrying the ball 15 times a game must not really know what his offense has done in the past. Lots of different people carrying the ball, and they chuck it deep (20+ yards) more than just about any other team.

I think all classes are important. What most people don’t realize is the damage or time it takes when you miss on one year, like last year. Top 45 class will hurt in 3 years. The OSU, OU, FSU, etc can get away with it due to true blue chippers. We’re never going to have that luxury.

Or the way we keep missing with QBs. I think we’re on our 18th QB savior. Now it’s on Martinez. Time will tell. The OL and lack of WR/TE is not going to help any QB. He’ll get crushed for 2 years then the new recruits come in and then our QBs a SR and gone and we start over.

Winning the West and being a top 40 team isn’t dreamy, but it’s reality.
