What I would require from Coach Riley

For Riley to stay I would insist that he fire every coach that is tied to Oregon State the day after the season. That staff was used to losing and it has just carried over to Nebraska; they have contributed to the loss of almost every proud statistic we had.

I would give Diaco one more year; he can't be blamed for the mess he inherited and needs another year to be successful; I think he can do it if we get the 2018 recruiting class we deserve and the remaining coaches that just happen to be both the best recruiters and coaches. Coach Riley is really great at every required skill as a head coach except the actual coaching.

If it is Scott Frost then it is a whole different ball game but the time line is the same. I think the players and recruits would accept him. We may even improve recruiting. If Moos is doing his job, which I think he will, a lot of behind the scene recruiting should be going on. I am especially excited about receivers we have. Unfortunately our offensive line is so poor both in play and recruiting.

This is a joke, right?

Let me get this straight. You want to fire every assistant coach he brought from Oregon State because they have a loser mentality. Mike Riley has lost 171 games as a head coach. Let that sink in and then ask yourself what needs to change? Who would he replace them with anyway? Also do you think some of the better assistants are even going to stay around. They are all dressing up their resumes.

All of them just need to be purged at this point, Riley included. Let's just blow it up and start from scratch.

He’s not a good coach, my support disappeared once I started to see the product they put on to the field get worse in all areas.

I can’t think of anything that has actually progressed.
The punter!!! but that is a rare circumstance being forced to start before planned due to tragedy. Lightbourne is heads and tails above last year but that could easily just be that he is better prepared for the job now

This is too funny. Riley got it wrong when he chose to bring his buddies with him 3 years ago. That move there was the kiss of death for his tenure at NU.

Who would he replace them with? What successful position coach or OC out there would jump on a sinking ship that is Nebraska with Riley as the Captain? If. Pretty big if. But if you give him another year you simply replace Cav. That's it. Everyone else he is tied to.

Even Trent Bray?
I don’t know why people on here think Trent Bray is any good. Have you seen the LB’s play the past 3 years? NONE of the coaches are any good, I repeat NONE! There is not one single coach that Riley has hired the past 3 years that’s any good. NONE!

Riley’s first staff here was terrible and the guys he replaced them with are ZEROES!

If he stays, I think there will be 2-3 new people on the staff, maybe a 4th

Cav (duh)
Langs (play calling has been horrendous at times, unless Riley takes the reigns there I could see a change)
Bray (think he may leave on his own, has had offers every year)
Tavita (did the 10th assistant ever kick in)

I don’t think either of the williams’s Are going anywhere, and honestly could see a push to have them stay even with a new coach

Johnny P is also safe

And oddly enough, isn’t his position coach Diaco?

Let’s end these hypothetical posts for a couple weeks please. The horse is dead. No need to keep beating it. No, a wholesale assistant coach turnover won’t happen and wouldn’t help anyway.

Let’s let the next few weeks pass and then there will be a whole different conversation going on.

He's not staying. We need a new head coach period.

I would require that he wins 9 games this year. He does that, he can stay.

Not good that he's lacking the most important skill of being a head COACH.
