Forget the missed calls on the shot clock violation & the foul on Ado. The last 4 minutes of that game took 20 minutes to play. Most of the wasted minutes were in the last 2 minutes. We’re completely destroying the flow of the game to over-analyze calls and still missing the important ones. It’s ******** & ruins the fun of watching basketball.

To me college basketball has been totally controlled by refs (lots of fouls called with no consistency) and tough to watch since around 2010.

Like ol “suck my teeth” Cross said on sports talk the other day...it’s like the refs are blowing the whistle prior to the contact. We have slow motion cameras. I’d like to know the reaction times to some of these fouls. It’s too bang bang....which leads you to think they are just incompetent and lazy......or is it rigged !?!

2010, wasn’t that the year that the refs stole 2 wins us vs UK. Both were highway robbery and a win in either puts us in the tourney .

I think they should institute a 5 second run off for fouls on the trailing team in the last minute. Some of these games take 20 minutes to play the last 2 minutes.

A friend pointed out that the SEC office had the refs rated after each game by the teams. Regardless of how rough one team plays the refs attempt to "even out" the fouls they call to secure a high rating by the coaches.

Make it a 30-second runoff.

Force teams to play good defense to try to get the ball, rather than just simply hacking away.

The slowdown at the end of many basketball games is ridiculous. (my opinion)

Each team has 1 60 second time out and 3 30 second time out for a game. Televised games have automatic time outs at 16, 12, 8 and 4 minutes. If you consider that people get most concerned with the outcome in the final 5 minutes it just makes sense that the stations will try to milk all the ad time out of they can get. In close games those time outs will take place in the last 4 minutes to attempt to win games so the rest is history.

That's too many coach's time outs. Need to cut it to 2 30-second time outs per coach per game, and no time out allowed on a dead ball situation. Honestly, I'd be more than OK with just eliminating coach's time outs completely.

What we really need to do is eliminate those stupid tv timeouts and go to quarters like the women.

Do that and give each coach 2 timeouts per half

Why? There are still TV time outs between quarters and in the middle of each quarter. There's not going to be any getting rid of TV time outs since those pay the bills. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't like 4 quarters for basketball. Just adds another unneeded artificial break in the game.

Maybe we need some new rules for timeouts in basketball. How about this?

After the commercial time out near the 4:00 mark (i.e., remaining game time), each team gets one 30-second time out. All remaining uncalled timeouts are forfeited.

For a non-televised game, the "one 30-second time out" rule kicks in at the first dead ball after the 4:00 mark.

2 30 second time outs in Overtime

Why not make it the same for the last 5 minutes of the game regardless of TOs left? I like your idea but coming back from 10 points down with 5 minutes left may require a couple.

Because then the tv breaks are once every 10 minutes vs once every 4. That addition had been the worst thing ever for college basketball. I know it pays the bills but it makes it unwatchable most of the time.

They’ve got to find a way to have longer periods of sustained play.

I hate it football as well with all the timeouts after a kickoff, etc. the NFL network broadcast one of those odd makeup games without those and it was so much better to watch. A team would punt and play would resume in 30 seconds

They're just longer TV time outs. Plus you're forgetting the quarter break which is another TV time out. You very rarely get anywhere near 4 minutes of sustained play as it is anyway, so that wouldn't change. I can take those time outs because they're spaced out. What I'm talking about is both coaches saving all 4 of their time outs for the last 2 minutes of the game. So you get 10 seconds of play, time out, another time out, 20 seconds of play, go to the monitor to review, wait, wait, call is still controversial half the time, 5 seconds of play, "unintentional" foul, free throws, etc.
