What do you people expect?

We're on the road in a rivalry game against a top 20 ranked team with an excellent, seasoned quarterback. Our WR room is better, but still average at best, and we enter the game without arguably our #1 wideout in Reece Vander Zee. Then in the 1st quarter, we lose our #1 TE. Those are huge blows to our ability to throw the football, and we also were without our #1 RB.

Why would anyone expect us to be able to move the ball through the air much? I think we played pretty well considering the circumstances. I like Gronowski's ability to run and extend plays. We should be able to win the next two, and hopefully get Vander Zee and Moulton back in time for Indiana @ Iowa on 9/27. We'll likely be 3-1 and 1-0 in B1G play, they'll likely be 3-1, 1-0 or 4-0, 1-0.

All is not lost by any means. Have to win @ Rutgers though.

We've played 2 games, one against Albany, and in that game we threw for 44 yards, which if that wasn't a harginger of things to come I don't know what to tell you. We haven't really utilized our TE's the way we had in the past under previous coordinators. and we have shown nothing in 2 games that our receivers are better. I think a lot of it is scheme but we also lack any explosiveness at the position. And having VanderZee back might help a little bit he's far from a game changer. Yes, our defense played their asses off as usual and Parker kept us in the game like he usually does. We played not to lose ( as always) and when you do that it comes down to just a few plays. And they got a lucky bounce on a tipped ball and we had a 4th and 2 to win the game possibly and kicked a field goal.

Iowa State is not that good. Other than UMass there’s no one left on our schedule that Iowa State is considerably better than. Iowa has three unwinnable games on the Big Ten schedule with the remaining 6 basically being a bunch of Iowa States. Iowa is going to have to win four of those just to reach bowl eligibility. This could be one ugly season…

Who is Iowa even favored against at this point (post UMass game) ??

Indiana - at Kinnick so maybe slight underdog ?
Rutgers - if we lose to the above we’re dogs
PSU - nope
Wisconsin - at their place, depends what their record looks like - ugly game as always
Illinois- they look good so far
Minnesota- always ugly
Oregon - ugly
USC - no chance
MSU - ugly
NE - ugly

Iowa is going to need to triple or quadruple their offensive output to have any chance of being favorites the rest of the way.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, there’s just no way. Best case we see more 25 play drives which eat up most of the clock and we still win 17-10 cause of special teams or defense
