What did you learn from the Spring Game?

I learned that the battle for the starting QB position is real. I was shocked to see how fast Abraham picked up the game plan.

I was not impressed with our OLs on either side. I think we were too thin there to split in two teams.

Defense will be very good this season. I'm glad we got our coach back for another year.

The clock means nothing.

I don’t see an elite/high-end SEC qb on the roster.

Abraham looked more willing to press to ball into tighter spaces and had a stronger arm. Will’s arm strength is a major limiting factor, especially trying to drill a pass into tight zone windows. I think he had a bad game as he was slower on his reads than he was last year but the lack of zip isn’t getting better and he’s only slightly better than average on accuracy and touch.

I did like the defensive effort snd liked the way D Johnson ran

That if Rogers is the starter he will have a lot of 30+ completion games for less than 300 yards and Marks will finish the season with 200 catches.

That's not a popular opinion on this board and people will go APE SH** but the simple fact & simple truth is I TOTALL AGREE with you on this: Jack Abraham SHOULD be our QB starter IF the fanbase wants to win 7-8 games this year. I say that with a huge UGH because I absolutely LOVE Will Rodgers because he is a hard worker and great team leader/locker room guy. With only seeing Jack for 2 hours, I can already see he is so much better in all phases of the AIR-RAID if we really take off our Maroon/Will Rodgers loving glasses.

OL is something quite different in this system and they are still working with players who didn't run that kind of offense before they came there. I am probably wrong but I expect that we will start recruiting OL from far and different places

Yeah. I got ridiculed when I said he could be our starting QB the day he transferred in. But I still wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him starting every game this fall.

1) That the QB competition is truly wide open. One bad "practice" when he is running for his life the whole time does not make it absolute that Rogers will not be the guy but there are guys coming. One just has to trust Leach will get the best guy on the field.

2) The OLine can't handle our Dline... in a spring game. Which does not mean nothing but doesn't mean everything either. Getting down to the best five guys will change things, how much? That's to yet to be seen. It better be better than last year or it could be another long season.

3) The "practice" was sloppy and was probably one of the worst of the year. Not a good look but can be used. There was another practice after it already. I would bet that one went differently.

4) Dillon Johnson is stud... if I wasn't aware of it, I am now. Marks is not far behind and may even do some things better. Nice one two punch at RB. I knew this, but they are better than I remembered.

5) I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling about this offense but I do believe this defense can be good. I knew that but a few names popped up that reminded me of some guys.

There is real reason people don't like Leach's offense. It's damn hard to pull off and depends on so much going right. Players have to be able to think for themselves on the field without hesitation and with anticipation and not just run a called play. Leach has a system that teaches it effectively but it does not happen overnight, usually year two you see dramatic improvement.

We saw evidence of it getting better as the year went along last year. I fully believe it will be even better this coming fall despite what I saw Saturday. I will take that with an improved defense, especially in the secondary and we could have a good year.

KJ was 49/18 (TD/INT) before transfer,
Jack was 41/29

I would place my bets on Will based on the improvements he made as the 2020 season progressed.

KJ also had an injured shoulder that he re-injured in the LSU game. I don't know if Rogers will lose the starting job this year or not, my guess is it will be close, but I doubt he'll be a 4-year starter for us.
