You can tell playoff time is near. The board is getting spicy.

Still not sure what to make of the last 48 hours but here’s my thoughts.

1 - That I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again a healthy QB means more than most people think it does.
2 That just when we have this all figured out, we really don’t know anything.
3 - That some very big nada likely will be watching the playoffs this year.
4 - That Wauconda has done a wonderful job - take a bow Mitz
5 - That if prospect could do over the fourth qtr they would.
6 - That York is a problem - again.
7 - That the NUIC looks primed to own 1A again
8 - That someone needs to explain the Dukane to me like I am 5
9 - That the top go the CCL White looks to be as strong as any conf in the state
10 - That class 7A is turning into the class of the island of misfit toys.

One more week to go.

WB6 edition:

Moline: Crown them the champs! Should crush Galesburg week 9 and enjoy a home game week 10.
Geneseo: Gets to go to Quincy refreshed and looking to claim 2nd place.
Sterling: A one eighty second half punches their playoff ticket with lowly Rocky left to go.
Quincy: Got hammered in the 2nd half against Sterling. Has to now rally with Geneseo coming to town.
United Township: Losing their starting QB was a huge blow. Should limp into the playoffs with (I imagine) an Alleman forfeit.
Rock Island: Overwhelmed an undermanned Galesburg team. Can they pull out another positive week 9 against Sterling?
Galesburg: Not looking forward to playing Moline next week.
Alleman: I am assuming they will forfeit next week also.

Gonna be a potentially ugly post-season I'm afraid from everything I've looked at so far

That team had loads of talent other than him and still only won by 4 points. They don’t have the same talent level this year.
Not sure what to make of Kaneland this year. Their QB got hurt against Morris but no clue if he's back yet. I didn't think they would lose to Rochelle and ony beating a 2-6 LP team by one was pretty shocking.

I think it’ll come down to coaching and I think one team has the advantage on that side pretty clearly imo.

Even for a 3A school. Althoff's size of opponent would be top of class, I'd believe. We played a tough schedule, not the farmerball tour. They have competed - led every game for at least some time, except St. Mary's.

Does Althoff miss Hill, Dowell amd Coldon, among others? For sure.

Maybe they surprise us with the W this weekend - stranger things have happened!

Enrollment wise yes. I’ll agree to that. But none of the teams you’ve played have been “heavy hitters” in their respective classes at least on the IL side. I will not pretend to know anything of Missouri football because I don’t.

They have 35 playoff wins with 5-8A schools, aside from the traditional game with Mater Dei.

Alton 0-8
W 34-13

Highland 4-3
W 42-26

Belleville East 6-2
L 31-17

Marion 5-3
L 56-24

Mt. Vernon 3-5
L 29-28

Collinsville 3-5
W 16-14

Mater Dei 3-5
W 58-35

St. Mary's South Side 5-2
L 23-0

Kaneland 6-2
?????

East lost to ESL and Eville, by 2 points, and is a perennial 8A playoff qualifier. Highland is a good program, the South 7 schools are always stocked with athletes, St. Mary's lost in last year's finals in MO - stocked with studs.

I am not shocked they may miss the playoffs. I said that as soon as the schedule was released. That is a hell of a regular-season test for them.

So shots at Austin are not warranted at all. He made good chicken salad with the ingredients in the cupboard.

There’s loss there to a 3-5 team. Only a 2 point win over Collinsville. I agree the size of school they play is impressive. But I will not agree with them playing heavy hitters. East and Highland will not make any noise in the playoffs. Marion won’t either. Alton is just lol. Marion offense seems fun but probably wins 1 game if that? At least last year you played Tolono who was a heavy hitter in there respected class and they lost in the semis. That was my point. Again no clue about the Missouri school so I’ll take your word for it.

Content for a title in their respective class? No. Does this schedule have six or seven to kick Tolono‘s ***? It sure does.
I disagree. I think Tolono beats Alton, Collinsville, Mt. Vernon, Mater Dei, Highland, and Marion. This years Tolono team is better than last years by a lot.

You keep saying heavy hitters. I said this is a tough 3a schedule that has 35 playoff points from their larger opponents.
35 playoff points isn't the flex you think it is. That's tied for 26th in terms of playoff points by 4-4 teams.

Bigger teams don't equal better. 4A Coal City beat 8A Bloom 49-0 this year and 2A Wilmington put the same score on 7A Thornton.

If you swapped Althoff and Tolono‘s schedules, I’m pretty sure the Crusaders would be eight and one also. Or better.

I do not think Tolono would have a better record if they played the Crusaders schedule. Both of our opinions are subjective.

I think you are overlooking the point which is 1a schools dont have over 50% of their schedule consist of 5a-8a teams.

As is usually the case for most programs not located in the direct Chicagoland area that have qualified in 6A-8A... Also, it's the WB6, a basketball conference.

ESL remains the only consistent product 6A and up that "not Chicago area" people can claim. Glenwood? Nah. Rocky? Where they go? Quincy? Always been pretenders or non-contenders. And the response to the rest of the list is on par with this.

Which is kinda how it goes for a lot of smaller programs in the state. Nothing really outstanding or noteworthy about it. It's always tough to watch, but it's a common thing for programs to experience after a strong class graduates.

Many simply find it "of interest" because it's Althoff, the 1A private school, that even had one poster last year convinced would win multiple classes if put there 1A-5A. Proof the recruiting trail isn't exactly what folks think it is, even in a more densely populated area.

Say what you will, but I for one applaud any program willing to schedule a who's who of southern IL programs. You're getting hung up on their overall status compared to the state. I think Crusader's point was that Althoff could have easily only called the dwindling little 1A-3A programs down in SoILL but instead chose to make the calls to the bigger programs in the area. Much respect there. I don't see CPC, Stockton, Lena, or any 1A program really scheduling even 1 of these programs, let alone 4-6 of them.

Does it have anyone on there who will be a state title contender like they did with Tolono Unity last year yes or no.
Billville just thumped Maroa... And if we're being honest Maroa has more horses currently and is a 2A south bracket lock of a pick. I think we've all been sleeping on Aaron Kunz boys all year. This current class went to state as frosh, 7-3, then 9-2... now they've locked up the Sangamo. Williamsville deserves to be one of the favorites out 3A south if they fall there.

Stopped at the Casey's in Billville a few weeks ago and some locals were talking - they think highly of their team. Hilariously, I also heard this BIG GUY talking sheepishly about his youngest son, a freshman now, being in the band, not following his big bro's path.

I've heard many an "interesting" tale from folks who've stopped in or near Billville during their travels. But proud they should be, Kunz runs a classy program. They're always right there, lurking... It checks out that they may have another title contender hiding under the radar.

It's a huge flex. Most teams in this state ONLY schedule teams they think they can beat. Very few schedule more than one team that they know will give them problems. If Althoff make the playoffs, they will be battle tested and will make a nice run in 3A.
