Sorry for the delay folks. Let us close out the year once and for all never to speak of it again.

1 - That the best in class for 2025 were the Panthers, Wildcats, Tigers, Broncos, Spartans, Friars, Crusaders and Caravan
2 - That the Ruston the finals by Fenwick and Oswego were memorable and noteworthy.
3 - That one of these days ESL will learn how to play in cold weather.
4 - That Jonas and the Griffs would make go a great 90’s pop band but for a football team the injuries (another rock band) won out.
5 - That the NUIC again remains the top small school conference in the state.
6 - That the IHSA current football playoff format, though flawed, works. Expansion is not the answer.
7 - That a big thank you is in order to the likes of Johnny OBrien and Aaron Stewart. We all enjoyed watching.
8 - That maybe multiple sites for the state finals isn’t a bad idea.
9 - That maybe someday powerhouse football South of I80 will return but for now Wilmington holds the crown.
10 - That the public vs private debate will remain just that, a debate. A whiney, “woe is me,” proposal won’t solve the issue.

That’s a wrap for 2025.

That the author of the above post apparently thought a conference that won 5 of the 8 titles (4A thru 8A) was not worth a mention. More learning seems to be in order.

What is there to learn? We already knew that. Oh wait, did you just learn that today?

It’s been proven year after year that the NUIC is the top small school conference. Why mention that again in #5? Did you just learn that?

Some want the privates to have a separate playoffs, it seems like they already have one.

5A title has been won by a private school every year since 2019 when Rochester beat Rita. With the current setup and enrollments of the CCL, it’s hard to imagine a public school winning 5A anytime soon.

The CCL is unquestionably the best conference in the state, yet I’m always amazed by how fragile its fans’ egos can be if you don't scream it from the rooftops.

Yea 5 out of the 8 titles this year from that conference and I'm sure some on here still feel like they are treated unfairly by the ihsa.

Well, there is something called burying the lead. This was a case of ignoring the lead. When one conference wins 5 titles, I’d say it bears mentioning in a season wrap up thread. Then again, maybe I’m too sensitive.

Some want the privates to have a separate playoffs ...
Some times a poll appears in a thread and it might be interesting to see how this forum's posters weigh-in on continued combined public/private 8-class playoffs compared to separate 6 public/2 private competition. Ideally, one-person and one-vote could keep the results from being skewed. If I knew how to do this ...

I learned that this board since moving to on3 is not the same if once was and I really enjoyed it. Outside of the Private vs Public debate (yawn) and some low blows around playoff time about some posters opinions this board was, for the most part, respectful and dare I say drama free this past season. It's OK to disagree, it OK to debate, but the grade school like bullying and child like remarks were at an all time low this season and I found it refreshing

Agree, but I feel like we lost some of the good old timers in the transition.

Felt like the negativity on this board was over bearing this year.

Rather than a playoff expansion or am ever higher multiplier

the clear and easy answer is having the “A” - mascot travel from game to game

I think that it would allow everyone to come together and put our public/private differences aside

The end of their game against Southlake Carroll was crazy.
Yeah that was a great game. Southlake QB threw a bad pick 6 to let DeSoto back in, then he came up just short on the 4th down play. Looked like he pulled up a bit rather than just going for it.
Then of course Baker goes 99 yds on the way out. Hell of a game.
DeSoto is actually 5A enrollment but they petition up to 6A.

Do they petition up to avoid 1 team or to test themselves?

Guess I can’t say for sure, but I think it’s the latter. I believe they are about 50 or so kids shy of being naturally in 6A.
The new two year cycle projections are out for their districts down there. My buddy sent me the 6A projections and I didn’t see DeSoto listed, so they will likely petition up again.

Correct me if I am wrong (like I could avoid being corrected), but isn't the CCL also the biggest conference in the state?

Asking for a friend. :ROFLMAO:

It is, but not sure what that has to do with anything that anyone is talking about.

It is. But they won 5 titles and got 2 runner ups. That’s 7 trophies for the 24 teams (29%). Pretty much unprecedented, even for the CCL.

???????????????????????????????

More teams = more winners
More sub-conference champs = more playoffs & more winners
More teams make the playoffs = more winners

Seems pretty obvious to me. BUT....

pjjp is correct that it is not proportional to the number of teams.

The way the CCL is structured it actually isnt recognized as a conference by the IHSA. You must have 6 teams per division to be recognized. That is why they do not have any schools listed under conference champs in the qualifying categories.

It's always been this way. It's recognized as a conference the IHSA just doesn't recognize any team as a conference champion due to the 4 team divisions.
