I really can't remember the last time we had a really good hitting team, or even a team that had consistent, timely hitting when men were on base. Don't know the numbers but just so many games over past few years that we left a high number of guys stranded. Tanner's teams did have the knack for timely hitting, or that's my recollection..

Oh, yeah. We've played one game against a first-tier program and lost it. And we've lost one game to a second-tier program. I know it seems bad to express it that way, but that's what the strength matrix (RPI) used to pick at-large teams for the NCAA Tournament is going to indicate when it's all said and done. The raw record in baseball, as it is now with basketball, can be misleading come selection time. First RPI data posting is 3/18.

It’s too early to grumble about this season only…but the whole body of work?? Yeah, we can grumble. Low expectations. This program feels stuck in the middle of the road when it has every reason to compete for National Titles. I hope we turn it around but I, like many of you, know what this season will look like. Mediocre. It just always feels like we’re missing 2-3 big pieces of the puzzle every year.

I don’t know what we were doing at the plate last night. 4 hits. Clemson hits our batter and then let’s him advance to 2nd in the 9th. We couldn’t get him around. Not only that, but the 3 ABs weren’t good ones either. Our batters watched as fastball after fastball went right down the middle of the plate. We swing at pitches in the dirt or above the Letters. But we watch good hitting pitches over and over.
