What are your guesses on how the offense does?

I looked up a few team offensive records (though feel free to correct me if I messed anything up).

  • Total passing yards: 4,113 in 2015
  • Total passing TDs: 33 in 2015
  • Total completions: 331 in 2015
  • Total offense: 6,679 yards in 2014
  • Total offensive TDs: 60 in 2014

Also interesting to note that we've only ever had one QB to record 500 yards passing in a single game: Dak with 508 against Arkansas in 2015.

Obviously with only 10 games, the numbers might be off this year and it's fair to wonder how well we'll do in Year 1 of a new offense... but I wouldn't be surprised if we made a run at some of those records.

With only 10 games, and no G5/FCS games, it's going to be hard to break any records this fall. Possibly the 33 passing TDs could go down.

That was my first thought but Texas Tech & Washington State both averaged just less than 2 passing TDs per game in Leach's first seasons there so I'd expect something a lot similar to that for MSU-- maybe 18 or 19 total.

Texas Tech in 2000: Here.

Washington State in 2012: Here.

Edit to add: Actually, let's go with a number we're familiar with: 17 TD passes in a ten game season against just SEC opponents in the first year.

I had to go look that one up. I thought Taite had at least that much against Tulane in '94 but he had 466. If you remember that game, we had Bouie and Davis and Tulane was determined to stop the run so Taite had a field day. I remember the post-game call in show where some old lady crawled Jackie's *** about throwing the ball while we were up so much and rubbing it in. Jackie told her "Ma'am, they had 11 people at the line of scrimmage. Did you want me to punt on 1st down?"

I do remember that game. And Taite's 466 are still in second place for passing yards in a single game. We've only had seven games where a QB has thrown for more than 400 yards. I'm very curious to see how many times we crack that barrier this year.
