At first, I didn't like it, but the more I thought about it, the more I think his response, while undiplomatic, is fine. There's no reason why he should have to focus on his team as a charity case at this point in the season. A more experienced media guy would have probably come up with some great sounding BS to chat about on the topic anticipating the topic to come up, but why should he have to talk about what was probably the lowest point of the season after the way his team is playing right now? Why does he need to play up to the team his team needs to beat tonight? He doesn't.

Anyone that knows how SWAC athletics is run and organized shouldn't be shocked by this type of behavior or attitude.

Yeah, but a simple "That was a nice gesture and we thank them, but now we have to beat them" or something along those lines would have sufficed. He came off as ungrateful.

Please remember they also bitched when we played them in football that we didn't pay them enough money. Guess their entire AD is ungrateful.

Actually I thought the prick was the sports broadcaster guy. Jackson State took out the #1 team in the regional. There were a hundred things he could have asked and he chose to take a shot at the team?

That was just a snippet of the interview so for all we know the part preceding that could've all been about what a great job they did knocking off ULL. That's not the first time he's said that.

Putting yourself in the coaches shoes, during the middle of a regional, I don't blame him. They've proven their they're there to compete.

How was that question taking a shot at JSU's team? Yeah, their coach is a *****. They bitched when Southern Miss scheduled them in football 20 years ago that USM should have given them a home and home. I guess things haven't changed. Maybe we should reconsider giving them a big payday every couple of years

I would definitely tell them to eat a turd if they ever call us to schedule a regular season baseball game.it benefits them way more than us anyway.

Yeah- poor question for a short segment- focus on what they did. But as others have said, don't act ungrateful. If you want, turn it back around to focusing on games, whatever. But just saying.... "yeah we got it, didn't use it. Wrong color." Super rude- that'd be if it were us or something completely unrelated- tornado relief, whatever.

And, if you can't use it, hopefully you let those donating know so they can pick out what they want to do with it. It's not a deal where you get to trash it or just hand away to whoever and they get to keep it as an extra.

yep, and there was no other response to the question other than what he delivered that would have deviated from the fact that they were there to compete...

may not have been the best question for the coach considering the circumstances of the day at hand. not the best time to remind the coach he runs a program that lacks money and took a hand out from the "haves" of the world the day he's competing against said "have".

The JSU coach could have and should have handled that better. That being said it made me a little uneasy the way our giving them the equipment was publicized. To me that's the kind of thing you do quietly. I don't think the publicity was coming from our athletic department necessarily, but it did seem like some people were making quite the show of us donating equipment to them in their time of need.

This kind of thing happens all the time... and I agree with you. To me, it's kind of like the tornadoes in Tuscaloosa, Louisville, etc. Guess what goes on the front page of the University's website? All kinds of photo albums, stories, publicity, etc. of MSU helping out (it's not the fact we helped out I have issue with by any means... it's the fact we use our helping out to push out tons of publicity of us helping out for no other reason than improving our public image/recruiting/etc.). Maybe I'm being cynical, but that always seemed a bit selfish and self-righteous to me. I know the tornado deal was a much bigger deal, but I'm with you... I hate how we always have to make kind gestures like this nothing more than a huge publicity stunt.

I am in my senior year for electrical engineering at JSU.. It is a great school, don't get me started on their education level , especially mathematics. That was classless though.

No Tact whatsoever. damn shame.

For those of you saying it was a bad question and bad timing: the story of their bus made national news. It might be the only national news they have had all season for baseball. They were playing the team that helped them out. It was a feel good story and gave the coach of their team the opportunity on a national stage to act like a professional and to say something good about the team he plans to beat today. He could have just as easily said, "it was a great gesture by MSU and we hope to thank them today with a win using their equipment." I would have laughed and so would have the reporter. End of story. Instead he gets asked about it again because he acted an ***.

Absolutely agreed.

Great that we help, I don't even mind when we do take pictures of it even though I think it seems like you want attention for it- but let it die after then. Don't keep reminding people of that time you helped out.
