Moving charters up does not really fix the problem. For each school moved up one is moving down. Cannot keep saying, we have an open enrollment issue in the smaller classifications. Period. That can be charter, parochial, magnet, open enrollment school systems, or standard public schools that play loose with enrollment of students from out of their geographical district. As long as people just complain about charters and/or parochial you will have another WS Prep pop up in a metro area but if it is focused more toward football you will all scream louder about that loophole.
Put all charter, parochial, magnet, & open-enrollment school systems in a different league and playoff to their own.
Not a complete different league. Different playoff setup is an idea. Let's determine the most important item, how will you decide what schools are "open enrollment?" I am not talking about Forsyth County but schools that allow it one off or are very liberal with their enrollment policy. That is going to be the first fight with that plan.

That will put more school systems in a different league than you can imagine. I am willing to bet Almost all school systems accept some type of out of district students. Just follow threads other than 1A and look at all the transfer talk. Or just look at 1A they sure seem to have a lot also. You can’t tell me those Surry and Davidson county school lines aren’t blurry. I mention those 2 because I know they both have 3 different school systems. Probably others around the state also.
At least WSFCS don’t hide or deny it.

I do agree to that but there's a whole lot of things that come into play like local taxes where tax dollars are allotted based on sales tax etc etc. What needs to happen is if the average amount per pupil allotted for a school is say $4,000 a year from the state of North Carolina's budget. Then if you want to go to a school that's not in your district that you live in you pay $4,000 to go to that school. Obviously that causes some problems but probably not that much an athletics. Not the athletics that matter anyway. Which the only two that make money are come even close to making money or football and basketball. The rest just drain the money made by those two programs. So while I agree with you that Winston-Salem Forsyth county schools doesn't try to hide it. It still does damage to a lot for each individual school. If you live in a school district you should play sports there. If you don't then you pay what it cost. Which doesn't happen. Not all the time anyway and it's certainly not the amount that it needs to be.
The only one anyone complains about is WS Prep. Heck how many Football championships has East Forsyth won or Regional finals they played in in the last 5 or 6 years? I promise you they were not all home grown Kernersville kids. Not one peep from anyone in the 4A classification.
Prep goes to Murphy or Robbinsville every year in playoffs and takes their butt whipping. The basketball recruiter has moved onto a private school, how have they been the last 3 or 4 years in basketball? He was the same recruiter that made RJR the powerhouse they were in the early 2000’s. What have they done lately. I will be accused of defending Prep and I am not, I have stated on this board numerous times that they need to be consolidated with Carver. Both schools sitting half empty. Use the Prep building for overcrowded schools.

They don't hide it because they call it open enrollment. Hard to hide that. LOL
Can you tell us what teams in Surry County have out-of-district players and where these players came from ?
Do you have a dog in the fight in Forsyth Co., did you go to school there or is it the fact that is where you live? Explain why you are a die-hard open enrollment fan and always cover for Forsyth Co.
Whomever put this "update" together must have been blind, stinking drunk!!! Just raising the charters, parochials, and other non-aoned schools up a class DOES NOT WORK. You need a multiplier, such as 2X, for these folks! Some schools may wind up going more than one class with the multiplier! Before all is said and done, it may look like most sports may need its own realignment, not just football!!!
Proud graduate of West Forsyth HS. Met my sweetheart there, had 3 sons go there and now have a grandson that goes there, will have a granddaughter that will go next year. I have a son That teaches and coaches there, multiple sports. Older son taught there for 14 years before he moved onto become an athletic director at another school. Never said I was an open enrollment fan. As I said many times, not sure why WS Prep is open. Well I do know why, but this is not the place to discuss it. And if you read the history of WSFCS you will know why they are open enrollment.

Well, you sure attack smaller 1A schools a lot after attending a 4A school. Seems open enrollment Forsyth Co. and their attending members love taking advantage & attacking much smaller schools and smaller counties. LOL, to each his own but,

West Forsyth has 2400 students. I have not attacked anyone. I didn’t make 35+ years of officiating 5 sports by pissing off schools or attacking them.
Don’t shoot the messenger TD. My take is that Sportsnut is providing interesting information. He didn’t create the situation and may not agree with it.But he’s right that many (probably most) schools and systems have kids who don’t live in their geographic district. That will only get worse.
A school such as Carver could end up being a loser in some of these scenarios that demand a higher classification for open enrollment districts. They lose kids and probably gain very few. If made to play up a class, they lose doubly.

Seriously TD, how many kids from North Surry, East Surry, Surry Central, and even Galax/Carroll has attended school in the Mount Airy City Schools District?
I'm going to edit this to say you can laugh at it all you want but you really have your head in the sand if you believe Mount Airy doesn't benefit from out of district athletes.

Absolutely no way there will be a separate alignment except for football and then all other sports. We all know it will most likely be just one fir all.
Most likely, this is how it will happen. Just blows my mind to see all those non-football charters in 1A and 2A of this "update."
2a is awful as far as football is concerned. All you did with the Senate Bill is push all the non football schools from 1a to 2a. So now you have the same problem in 2a, that you would have had in 1a, AND you have made the ADM difference in 1a much larger by removing those schools.
This "update" is based on the latest version of what legislators are pushing for. As usual, they are having a knee-jerk reaction to the problem and proposing a "solution" without researching the domino effects their proposal could create.
So your observation that they were "blind, stinking drunk" is not accurate. They are politicians, which are worse.

How many kids have left Mayberry and went to those same schools including Elkin. ES had player left and went to Carroll County. How many have come from Stokes county and gone to ES.
Did a Mount Airy kid play at East Surry a year or two ago or am I thinking one played elsewhere?

I thought so and these kids are going to where they can get playtime or play the position they want to play at any school that has that for them. Also, I don't see any school letting them come unless it is by the rules. Also, unless it has changed I think a Coach and AD can release a player to play elsewhere if it is in their best interest and that happens about every year. Surry Co. and SMC have kids playing everywhere. If the school they are leaving does not object then nothing is said.
Wow, Surry county has them playing everywhere. So I guess it is no different than Forsyth, they just don’t hide it or deny it.
This is not an annual thing at any specific school. Elkin and East Wilkes and Starmount exchange players occasionally. It is an occasional thing if it happens in Surry and other counties. Forsyth Co. is an annual thing. It started a 1A school doing it, WSPREP and Bishop would not have a team if they couldn't do it.
Just remember if they go to a school out of their home district then they have to pay tuition.
