Cal has done as much for this university as anyone not named Rupp. He earned his spot and the right to work through this.

This has been coming for a while and some tried to address it. The system has had glaring flaws for some time, but it wasn't allowed.

Nike is pushing Duke, that's all it is. K was never the type of coach for these types of players, it completely goes against his record. This is a going out party for him set up by the NCAA and Nike. It sells.

Cal needs to go back to some basics in recruiting. The revolving door will not work today. I'm not saying pick 3 star kentucky boys so save the sarcasm. But recruit a basketball team, you aren't the pick for these top guys right now.

It’s simple what has changed.

The first five years or so under Cal he was about THE ONLY coach willing to go after OAD players. Over the last three years you’ve seen more coaches open up to it because they realized it was how the system was going to be. Coach K at one time spoke out against OAD. Bill Self didn’t like it either. Now look.

Cal was a pioneer in embracing the OAD theory and the recruits and their parents responded. But now more and more programs are open to it. The playing field has evened out.

Who knows but I’d say Barbee is a turn off to recruits or at least he can’t relate to them. You have to have great lead recruiters and while KP is great UK has taken a definitive step back since Antigua left. I don’t think it gets fixed either due to Cals loyalty, we are going to continue to come in second third or fourth place with the top players.

Another thing is teams like Duke negative recruit heavily and Cal won’t do it back, I suspect this is due to the unfair rep the media used against Cal and he chooses to be above that. We will still get good players but choosing first is over. But hey, didn’t so many want two and three year players anyway?

Recruit to specific needs. Get some shooters. Get some with basketball IQ. Get 2/3 OAD.

Nike, Capel negative recruiting, Team USA, no Antigua, behind the scenes shenanigans, Cal's pitch worn thin. A combination of things
If Bowen, a nice but not amazing player, was being offered for $100K what does it take to get three uber-elite wings on the same team?

We will get that kind of talent but they will still leave. It’s what Cal’s built.

I love Cal and wouldn't want anyone else, but you make an excellent point and this is the problem I have with what he's built here. I have ZERO issues with the superstars like Wall, Cousins, AD, etc, leaving after one year. I do have issues with the guys like Dakari, Teague, Lamb leaving when it's clear that they aren't ready for the NBA. Shai is a perfect example of all this. He had a nice run of games the last couple of weeks and all of a sudden he's a lottery pick. Does wearing the Kentucky jersey just automatically increase your draft stock?? This is exactly why I won't be surprised when Richards, Gabriel, and PJ all leave after this year along with Vanderbilt, Hami, and Knox. Just what I've come to expect.

As much as I can't stand K I think when he started going after the OAD players he started to get the elite guys pretty easily and moved Cal to second place. K'S name, multiple championships and the Duke name is winning out at this point. Basically he is taking Cals model and beating Cal to the punch with it.

Our recruiting changed the exact class that Antiqua left. It really went downhill when Barbee got here. That’s as big of a problem as anything.

And instead of hiring Antigua when he hit the market, we stayed the course.

K hired Capel back for a reason, we should have done the same.

Cal has brought a lot of this on himself through simple pride and stubbornness.

It was 5 years in the making. But whatever. I think Nike is taking care of Duke. If you don't agree, I really don't care.
