I'm just going to use this thread for the future instead of creating a new one each post.
LOTS going on last night.

Northside-4-0-Radford: This was the first game for the bobcats. I am told they are a greatly improves squad, and still tend to believe this. This was a tough first match and honestly these kids should already have one or two in the books by now. Hopefully they will start putting numbers up as they get their feet under them. Radford will face Parry McClure tonight.

George Wythe 4-2-Fort Chiswell: I may have to keep an eye on these Pioneers. They aren't winning yet, but staying in every game played. Also Max Dillon for GW is already pounding in goals this season. Keep an eye on this kid.

Narrows-1-1-Rural Retreat: I love these perennial powerhouse teams, but also have a soft spot for these extremely small schools that want kids out there playing soccer as well. This is a great matchup for both schools, and I am thrilled they have continued it as years have gone on.

As for Honaker...I can't find a thing. I know they have played at least two games, but can find no results.

Galax will be taking on the neighbor Carroll County tonight. Surely this will be the big break out for the Maroon Tide.

How's Galax and Radford this year?

Galax is pretty decent, but hasn't had the same flash as the previous years. I think they can get it going, but just not there yet. As for Radford all I get are vague rumblings of a solid squad. They lost to 3A Northside, but that isn't a real indication of anything. The game tonight with Parry Mc. will show a bit more about the squad over all.

Galax beat Carroll County last night 5-0
Northside topped Glenvar 5-0
And Dan River beat Martinsville 3-2

I know a few of those are 2A, but most folks follow both around here since we all play each other and districts are mixed currently anyway.

Radford beat Parry McClure 6-0 before heading out on spring break. Still up in there air on them. They will face some tough opponents soon.
George Wythe is also still hard to get a bead on. They have a scoring talent, but still need to face off against a tough opponent to really give an indication of caliber.
Galax will face 2A graham again next week (They play Carroll again first)...if they can't manage a good showing there, I think several teams will start finding some weak spots in that Maroon Tide defense.
Honestly other than Giles v Graham tonight this week is pretty dead in the area. There are games being played...just nothing to get too excited over. Auburn will face Bath County on Friday, but not a game many people have eyes on. Auburn is playing a 12 game schedule this season and other than Radford/Giles the rest of the schedule looks like cake. Hope that doesn't hurt them come playoff time.

That's a step better. Someone at the school has to do a better job of getting the teams schedule/achievements/ etc out there.

The only score I have, as I went to the game, from last night is Giles v. Graham. Not 1A, but they play a lot of 1A schools. Giles won 2-1. All goals were scored in the first half. I'm not even going to make the claim the better team actually won the game. Graham came out guns blazing. However the more composed and mature team won out. After Giles scored two unanswered goals the G-Men lost it; Coaching staff, players, fan, press box just had no comtrol. It was an immediate cacophony of whining and screaming. I thought Giles was the hot headed squad??? I saw the Graham coach throwing a hissy fit over a throw in...a midfield throw in! The Graham players had to be put on notice for insulting the Giles coaches. And the clock runner at one point stopped the clock and his response was that it was for "not having ball boys when we played at Giles". Please!
I went to this game thinking I would see Graham rally and beat an immature, and temperamental Giles squad...looks like role reversal to me.
Just a poor show from a very veteran squad. I think they need to adjust from the top down in order to really achieve anything of worth this season.
On the upside Giles was more composed and stuck to a strategy way better than I had previously heard they could do.

Fort Chiswell killed Rural Retreat last night 9-0. This score line isn't a great shock, but Fort is a team that is hot or cold, so I wouldn't expect them to keep those score lines rolling. However, they must be pretty decent this season, so maybe there is an upset on the way.
Marion2A beat Gate City 3-1. This is a pretty impressive score line. Marion has always been a mediocre team in past seasons, but they are knowledgeable in the game, so maybe this year they break through.

Tonight Galax gets back on the pitch with Carroll County. Maybe not a great game, but nice that they will sneak one in this week.
Also Friday, Christiansburg will travel to Abingdon. Not 1A soccer I know, but may be one of the best matchups this week.

That should make for a good game. George Wythe beat Floyd last night 3-2. Looks like the GW defense isn't what it once was, but the scoring power is on point. I may have to try to get to that Auburn game and see them both for myself.
Also yesterday Galax beat Carroll county to sweep them this season 7-3. I can't wait to see Galax play a second time. They head to Graham on the 6th...you can bet I'll catch that match.
Not a lot happening today in 1A. Giles will host Narrows and, if it is still on, Auburn and Bath will face off.
