I think one year the Nets had to forfeit a playoff game at Commack because the floor was in such bad shape or it rained inside or something. Found this online.A bit before my time, but the Nets started in Teaneck as the New Jersey Americans with former Rutgers star Bobby Floyd. Don’t know if the Teaneck Armory is still there. They moved to New York and played at the Commack Arena where if the games got boring, they could watch rats run around the arena and bathrooms.
Ironically, the team had forfeited its previous year's playoff game due to unplayable conditions at Commack. In 1969, Basketball Weekly reported that: "The court [at Commack] is placed over an ice rink and at times moisture seeps through the floor. Also, the areas behind the baskets are not fully covered and players driving in for layups often wind up on the ice. The Nets' Levern Tart suffered a broken cheekbone when he took a dive on the ice." Tart remembers seeing Denver Rockets players don gloves and overcoats while on the bench during a game.
