I would think not, our metrics right now aren't very good. Probably need to win each of these next three at home to even be in the discussion.

Biggest thing hurting us right now is that our nonconference resume is atrocious. 201 non-con SOS with zero good nonconference wins. COVID screwed us over a little bit, we replaced a neutral site game against Utah State (NET 60) with a home game against MVSU (NET 345 out of 345).

If we keep winning we will rise up the ranks, we are in much better position right now than we were prior to beating Mizzou and Vandy. Just need to keep it going.

- the clemson loss isnt a bad loss- they are a 4 seed right now and in the top 15 for rankings.
- MSU beat basically nobody of note in the preconference season.
- keep playing like we have for the last few weeks and i bet the team can play its way into the tournament.

- duke as a 10 seed is a rarity.
- surprised 6 SEC teams are listed as only 2 are even ranked.
- did South Carolina shut down their basketball program this year and forget to tell everyone?

As we shouldn't be.

But, if we continue to win, we will be. And our performance in those first two games will likely be looked at favorably because Molinar was out.

Does 11-7 in SEC play with an Iowa State win get us in? That would put us at 17-10 overall (meh). We may need 12-6 or better in SEC play, which is not easy to do, but doable.

We have
(2) Bama
(2) OM
(2) aTm
(2) USCe
And then Vandy, UF, TN, Ark, LSU, and AU. With an Iowa State game in there (who is currently 2-7 on the year).

How do we get to 12 wins?
UGA, MIZ, Vandy already. Need (1) of the aTm games. Need (2) OM game. Need (2) USCe games. Need (1) of Bama,TN for the marquee win. Need the other Vandy game. That puts us at 10 SEC wins. Then we need (2) of UF, LSU, AU, aTm, and Ark. Are there (2) wins in that group of 5? I think there is.

I'm just happy the season went from "can't wait till baseball starts" to "can we actually get in the tournament?".

Winning cures everything and we have the guard play to get there.

Big Game tonight!

Well, by the time LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas get through with us, the NIT may not be an option.
This team is capable of beating all 3 of those teams. We played like total **** tonight, but we can absolutely win those games.

Yep. This state team could BET on all those teams to win by double digits and come out ahead. What we witnessed tonight, is exactly why I try not to get sucked in to following State basketball. It was really bad basketball, by both teams.

We can beat anybody in the league, we can also lose to anybody in the league. I fully expect us to beat more good teams before the year is over... but I doubt we are finished taking dumb losses like tonight, either. We are way too inconsistent to accomplish anything of note this year.

And frankly I can live with it to a certain degree considering I had almost no expectations for this team. Even after tonight I still think they are better than I expected them to be. I get some of the inconsistencies too, we don’t have much experience and have a lot of guys taking on bigger roles than they ever have before. So bad losses aren’t totally unexpected when you have all of that.

All that being said... we better be good next year. This core group is too good to not capitalize on it while we have them. This two steps forward, two steps backward crap has to stop at a certain point.
