Lets face it, the past two seasons were flat out GARBAGE, due in large part to the coaching on the offensive side of the ball. It'll be nice to have an Offensive Coordinator that won't need Big Ten Training Wheels for once, but more importantly, the hire of Jerry Kill signifies that Rutgers wants to compete at the highest level. He knows what its like to compete in the B1G, and his hire will allow Chris Ash to devote more of his time to making the Rutgers Defense, the best it can be. It was very important to hire someone that could allow Rutgers to make the most of its available offensive talent, and we've done that. The hiring couldn't be more timely, as unlike previous years, there will be a plethora of available talent on the offensive side of the ball:
  • Johnathan Lewis is our Day 1 Starter and Future All American
  • Pretty sure now, Janarion Grant will be back, now that he has a qb and a top notch coordinator who will be calling plays for him. He'd be CRAZY not to return, as he is in for a big year and much better draft position if he does.
  • Juwuan Harris has All Conference Potential, especially now that teams won't be able to focus on him
  • Bo Melton has Freshman All American Potential
  • Ahmir Mitchell has Freshman All American Potential
  • Freshman Mohamed Jabbie has Freshman All American Potential
  • Bryce Watts has Freshman All American Potential
  • Everett Wormley has Freshman All American Potential
  • Transfer Jerome Washington has Freshman All American Potential
  • Offensive Line will be significantly bolstered by Freshman All American Candidate Micah Clark. And I also think Marcus Applefield and Nick Krimin should also be ready to go, giving us much better OL performance than last year.
  • Robert Martin and Josh Hicks should be the happiest campers, because Kill will maximize their production. They should both rush for at least 1,000 yards in 2017.
Choosing between which freshmen play vs. which freshmen redshirt is probably going to be one of the tougher tasks in 2017, so i'm glad to know that someone of Jerry Kills stature is going to have significant input in making these choices. Unlike last year, this year we are going to have an embarrassment of offensive riches.

Jerry Kill's hiring forces me to revise my 2017 win prediction upwards from 2 to more than 5. How much more, i'm not sure yet, as recruiting is still not done. 10 Wins is not out of the question.

At the very least, we're back to providing credible Big Ten competition in 2017, which is something that has escaped us the past two years. This is the best Offensive Coordinator Hire Rutgers is capable of making, and I couldn't be HAPPIER.

Al, why stop at All-American? Did a Freshman every win the Heisman?

The best offense coach on the planet couldn't have gotten the talent we had this year to more than 3 or 4 wins. Having said that, I am thrilled that we now have Kill as our OC as he brings so much experience at building programs.

You know what? Al will always go overboard, but I think he's right in many ways. Of course, it all depends on who signs in February, but I'm encouraged. When CA announced no staffing changes at the end of the season, I was so downtrodden, I just auto-designated him a four years-and-fired coach, but now I'm feeling we might have a chance at something. So long as at least a few things fall our way. I'm willing to up my 2017 win prediction from 1 to 2, maybe even 3.

Love the enthusiasm but once again you are waaaaaay off in your predictions...we have some future potentially good players coming in and currently on the depth chart... ...we have an experienced former head coach for O.C....Do we get Janarion Grant back... still a B1G if ?...To list all these kids as All -American potential is just moronic... hope one or two become 1st team All - B1G players...O-line will have 3 starters back plus several who have played on game day...our RB's are good .... if our O-line can open holes against the D's we will once again face?... Jonathan Lewis ...I sincerely doubt starts on Day1 ...actually, I'm hoping Rescigno under Kill along with some receivers who can actually make the tough catches...( would settle for making the easy catches ) would help....but as usual the O-line will dictate if our run / pass game improves otherwise we are looking at another 2-3 at best 4 win season...For many we just want to see some scoring against the better and not so better teams we face...as for rushing for 1000 yards by Hicks and Martin...ONLY if we find a couple of nasty talented RT and Rg'S...I like Seymour ( physically gifted ) but he needs to really improve his technique... remember he will have about 6-7 games in his resume ...Applefield could be a key along with several others now onboard....How many frosh lineman no matter how touted coming into a program actually start in game 1-2-3 if at all... I don't believe we can accept your "we have an embarrassment of offensive riches"...just let the final recruiting finish up ... see if we get a grad transfer or 2 maybe who can give us some need help...my wish is several lineman...O & D is where we can improve...and no rutgersal... 10 wins ain't happening.

I think better coaching could have made a difference in the Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois games. Now that we have better coaching AND a better qb, the sky is the limit.

LOL at this thread including a BSB video! RU has a long way to go fixing the talent level,it will not happen in one year. Need to fix the offense so the defense dosent spend massive minutes on the field. There is a long way to go to fix what Flood tore down in this program.I would be happy with seeing progress first this year on both sides of ball, being in some B10 games and get rid of national shame 70 pt loss games.
Back street back allright!!!!

McSorley and a Better OC got Penn State 10 Wins. Jonathan Lewis is better than McSorley and Kill is Better than Penn States OC, so I really think the sky is the limit. Off course i won't complain if we fall short, but aside from OSU and Washington, everyone else is beatable.

Sad to inform you rutgersal but Penn State today has better overall talent than Rutgers... more speed everywhere....that is the area where we won't be able to fix entirely in our first several classes... did you attend the game against Penn State this year?...as much talent as we are bringing in they are bringing more at the moment....that is what winning does....

AL, despite your post looking like one of mine it's great to wake up to something positive. Assuming these coaches are legit we still need enough dogs to fll the positons. Frankly we should consider you are our recruiting coordinator!

I have to say usually I am on hard on Al posts when they are crazy delusional. (yes I know when are they not?) However with just how ******** bad things have been these past two years, I appreciate the over the top, circle the wagons, world beaters optimism Al has because honestly why not ALWAYS go into the next season thinking it will be better? Ok so you get let down most likely, but it's just a damn game and it's fun to dream when you're an underdog.

Lewis better than McSorley?
I am not knocking Jonathan Lewis but he has never taken a snap in a BIG 10 game, but McSorley actually helped his team win a BIG 10 Championship!
Lewis was playing PC when McSorley was playing UW.
I love Jerry Kill but him being a better OC then Moorhead is debatable at best. He was solid at UM, but his offenses were not the talk of college football.
Relax and look forward to the future!

Today is the key word. By September 1st, 2017, Rutgers will have significantly closed or eliminated the talent gap with PSU.

The incoming September 2017 class solves the talent/speed issue with Jonathan Lewis making us once again competitive in the QB department, our wr corp once again competitive. Add Micah and the reserves to bolster our OL, and I think that we should be very competitive with PSU in 2017. Add the reserves and incoming recruits to our LB corp, and we should be much better there in '17.

OSU and Washington are really the only teams, which will have significantly better talent/speed, than what we have. Lewis is a huge difference maker from '16.

"We're BACK!!!!" implies that we were once there to begin with. I am confused, at what point have we in our short history in the B1G legitimately competed for a division championship? Does the proclamation that "We're BACK!!!!" mean that with our new OC and incoming recruits we will be in the running for a future Pinstripe Bowl invite, in that case I might agree with Al, anything more, sorry, I just don't see it.

Explain your reasoning on this belief that we will have closed the gap between the two programs....it is a deep cavern....not a minor gap in talent.... the size of the Grand Canyon ) by September 2017?...Did Penn State lose it's 2 deep....did their 2017 verbal recruits abandon ship?... they have some equal to higher rated kids coming aboard....you do adhere to the star **** system I assume...we need to give these young players some time...basically this is year #1...I look to see improvement at all positions ....I look forward to seeing the DB's progression this year...but there are still many questions that need to be answered... WR...Linebacker...O-line....D-line...and special teams must improve by 100%... our kicking game is poor to non existent...this can be fixed quickly but I haven't seen any strong hints of who may be punting and kicking off / field goals in 2017... Micah Clark as good as he may is a young freshmen....How many O-lineman start as freshmen?... Right not many....

Lol. This is funny. Thank God no one's putting any pressure on a high school QB to perform.
