Nothing earth shattering just fan talk which is of course just talk. Doesn't matter if we are taking anyone lightly. We are not in the line up.

Just looking at his 10 starts, he's had 5 OK to great starts, and 5 bad starts. I'm including starts in which he exited early but didn't give up runs in the "OK" category.

His OK to great starts:
-2 in February
-1 in March
-1 in April
-1 in June

His bad starts:
-4 in March
-1 in June

All of his OK to great starts were against tournament teams. One (his best start) was in the Super Regional (his last appearance).

The person you quoted isn't wrong: They have a lot of good arms. If McGarry has trouble early, they will go to someone else quickly. In McGarry's bad start in the Regional, he gave up 3 earned runs in 3.1 ip. He left the game trailing 0-3 and Virginia won 8-3.

He strikes out a ton of batters but also walks too many. If he has control, he's elite. He was their Friday starter in 2019 and 2020. He started this season as the number 2 starter when they made Abbott a starter.

We should know early how well he's going to do. If he has control, we can expect him to do well. If he doesn't, we can expect another good pitcher to be brought in quickly.

Not sure if Macleod has really lost it or if he’s just had to go up against some really explosive offenses lately at DNF (VCU and ND swing it better than UVA). It’s crazy how much better he has been away from home.

His last two true road starts came against offenses with comparable, if not better numbers, numbers to UVA (Bama and Carolina), and he dominated both. He did get hit hard in Hoover by UT, but they have been much more explosive than UVA throughout the season. UVA was actually dead last in the ACC in OPS this year- they’ve just been really opportunistic this postseason.

It’ll be interesting to see how he pitches tonight. These type of games (away from home in a big park against an average offense) are when he is usually good. Hopefully that is the case because we need a good start tonight.

Honestly, I'm not sure what to expect from MacLeod. I know when he's locked in he's pretty elite, but that's hit and miss the last few weeks. 4 or 5 innings allowing 5 runs won't surprise me and neither will 5 or 6 shutout innings. I really hope it's the latter.

I will say that in looking at UVA a bit closer, their pitching out of the bullpen does seem to be very good and deep.
We've clearly been the better team all year, just need to prove it tonight. A lot of favorites haven't been doing that.

He has been up and down for sure but is due for an up. Their guy might be the reincarnation of Cy Young tonight but not sure how the ****** crew had determined that based on one good start. Anyway we will find out soon enough.

You're right. I forgot about his hand issue. And I was looking at the wrong box score, so I got the score wrong too. And I want to say he had another hand/finger issue in his Super Regional appearance that he fought through.

The issue too may be how much can we trust Preston Johnson, Brandon Smith and other bullpen guys like Simmons and Stinnett to hold things even if MacLeod has a good outing. Sims, if available at all, is probably only good for maybe one inning tonight. He had to make about 15 extra pitches after the strikeout that wasn't called a strikeout the other night.
