Don't know if he will, and I don't know if he'd take it if they offered it, but the guy sure earned a look.

It is incredible how much trouble some of these "traditional" powers are having with winning and keeping coaches. Look around at Texas, USC, Tennessee, Nebraska, etc. and all the advantages they have.

Damn sure makes me appreciate what Mullen has done even though he drives me nuts sometimes.

You are correct; however, the speed with which the Sark shitcan happened strongly suggests that Haden was given an ultimatum. Fire Sark immediately yourself or you both are gone. Sort of the Loaferz version of Rick Ray's shitcan. I suspect Haden saved his own job.

If Gruden was ever going to get back in at the college level...this would be the perfect time and place. It would be a hell of a match.

From USA today...suggestions for USC coach

[h=2]9. Dan Mullen[/h]If this opening had come up last year when Mississippi State was rising to No. 1, Mullen would be on everyone’s list. Think about that: For several weeks last season, Mississippi State was No. 1 in the country for goodness sakes. Mullen isn't everyone’s cup of tea, but the fact that a blunt Yankee has thrived in the deep South shows he's smart and adaptable. Mullen has lots of energy, is excellent at evaluating talent and is on the cusp of leading the Bulldogs to a sixth consecutive bowl game. That's unprecedented at a historically tough place to win.

If he were to let it be known he was interested in getting back in college ball his agent would be the busiest man in the country. People continue to bring him up because they know he`s a damn good, 53 year old charismatic football coach who would probably win big where ever landed.

I really don't get the "blunt Yankee" line on Mullen. He doesn't strike me that way at all. Maybe I have a high tolerance for ********. Maybe I am an *******.

Yes, he's a damn good coach and still relatively young. But he has shown ZERO interest in getting back into coaching. He looks like he likes the life he's living now a lot better than he liked the coaching life.

Dan Mullen can be a major ******* when he wants to be. He's mellowed a good bit since he got here though.

Here's my take on Gruden. If he was a good coach he would be coaching. People all the time talk about how great he is but if I recall the only place he won big was in Tampa Bay with Tony Dungee's players. He is the Ole Miss of football coaches. People have heard so many times how great he is so it must be true, right?

Well, he gets credit for one team's players in Super Bowl XXXVII either way. Either Gruden got Tampa to the Super Bowl straight up or Callahan got the Raiders to the Super Bowl with Gruden's players.

Gruden makes 6.5 million a year at ESPN. Throw in some Hooters commercials and other endorsement deals and he is living large without the stress/hours of coaching. At the time the linked article was written only 8 NFL coaches made more salary than Gruden's ESPN deal. Pete Carroll ($8M), Sean Payton ($8M), Bill Belichick ($7.5M), Andy Reid ($7.5M), John Harbaugh ($7M) and Tom Coughlin ($7M)

Yep. He's 100-85 in the NFL and has the reputation for being the next great college coach. Even if he goes into college coaching and can make what he makes at ESPN, he'll have 100 times more stress and has a good chance of failure, at which point ESPN will hire him back for half of what they're paying him now.

He won his division 5 of the 11 years he coached. He was the last coach to have OAKLAND AND TAMPA winning on a regular basis. Those are 2 bad franchises in the last 20 years.

Actually, firing Sark now, saved USC a ton of $$. His "alleged behavior under the influence of alcohol while at work" made it easy to fire him 'for cause.'
