I wonder who UVA fans will pull for.

Texas beat them up worse, but we hurt their feelings more.

Texas managed to get through it without using their bullpen much but at least they’ve spent the Hansen bullet, we most likely won’t see him again at all and he’s arguably their best pitcher.

I will take our chances with Harding against a short rested Madden that we’ve already seen twice. And if for some reason that doesn’t work, we have Bednar in case of emergency in Game 2.

Or Bednar tonight where he can pitch on Tuesday or maybe Wednesday?

It's worth thinking about since Bednar dominated them the first time. And if he pitches game one you guarantee that he'd be available for the championship series on close to normal rest.

We're so close, but yet still so far away. 3 more games.

Time to go all in and let it fall how it will. I still say roll with Harding, you have two shots at it. And if Hootie gets you the W, you are really set up well.

This staff is not starting a first round arm on 3 or fewer days rest mere weeks before the draft. That’s just not how they operate. If we have to pitch Bednar against Texas then the soonest you would see him again is Game 3 of the title series, and you really risk a repeat of the Graveman conundrum in 2013 where you play for a national title and don’t get to use your best starter because you took an unnecessary risk.

You have to try to get by Texas with Harding. You can make a valid argument that he’s been more consistent and reliable than Bednar since late May anyway, and I don’t think your chances of winning are drastically worse with Hootie as compared to Bednar. If you end up having to play Texas twice and use both of them, well so be it, that just is what it is. But don’t use Bednar again until you absolutely have to.

I agree with you regarding not starting Bednar. But I think he’s had enough rest. I just think pitching Harding is the right call because he’s been good.

Would a rain out today change your thinking on starting Bednar? I would still start Harding to try and save Bednar to be a fully rested game 1 championship series starter myself but I could see the logic in him starting on Saturday if we get rained out today.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think we are all getting a little too carried away with one other worldly performance by Bednar. How many times have you seen him do that this year? How often does a pitcher do that to the same team twice? I mean, could he repeat his performance and smoke them again, sure...but one would expect a team as good as Texas to adjust.

Meanwhile, I don't think Texas has seen Harding at all, not even in the first game of the year I don't think. So, I like giving them a 4 pitch mix lefty after all of these power arms they've faced.....and if they beat us, ok that's not ideal but I really like coming back off of Harding back to Bednar/Sims power arms.

No matter what happens at this point, we'll be pitching someone on short rest in the Championship series if we make it, so might as well give them a fresh look and hope we can set up for Bednar in Game 1 with plenty of rest. I just feel like if we were to start Bednar tonight and him lose to Madden, it would give them all the momentum to steamroll us in the Saturday game. But with Bednar in our back pocket, they can't really get too confident too quick, even if they beat Hootie.

I'd go with Harding. Let them see Bednar enough and they might figure him out, give them someone they haven't seen just to keep them off balance.

Didn’t really have a preference between UT and UVA, but I am glad we are seeing Madden again instead of Hansen. We have seen him twice already, including earlier this week, and Hansen is a tough matchup for us.

Nobody will pitch on short rest of Harding starts tonight and the dogs win 3 in a row. Seems like the simple answer to all of our conjecture.

I agree that going with Harding is the right choice. I do have a couple of concerns because he's not overpowering and Texas will probably have 8 right handed hitters in the lineup tonight. Texas has struggled against hard throwers, so I don't really have any doubts that Bednar would give them fits again, provided he's not getting squeezed.

It makes me very nervous to have to beat the same team 3 times. They know us well by now. Somebody mentioned that they have not seen Harding and thats a good point. So starting him might be the smartest thing. Harding and the bullpen can get it done. Also having just hit Madden a week ago our hitters should about have him figured out. Hopefully we can rock him tonight

If Harding gets that big sweeping curve over and his slider working down and in, it could be a good day for the good guys. If he can’t throw those for strikes and the Ump is squeezing him, walks may turn into runs. I know it is going to be tough against Madden, but I think State will need 6 or 7 runs to win tonight.

I think we should go Harding, and save the other starters. I like Bednar against another team that hasn’t seen him in NC state. Hootie’s handled the big stage really well.

If Harding has his good change up I think he could give them fits.

If Harding... I think State will need 6 or 7 runs to win tonight.

While we have had a number of good at bats this CWS, we have only had one strong inning. Got to get on Texas pitching early, get hits, and move runners around. Homers are great, but we've got to be more consistent at the plate.

And we need to do it tonight!

Bednar is on 4 days rest.
He could absolutely go tonight or tomorrow but if you throw him tomorrow he’s done until at least Wednesday - if needed.
Best case we pitch Harding and he gives us 6 plus great innings and then you have the whole staff available to get 9 outs or less to get.
