Chris Beard turned Little Rock around after 1 season. He turned Texas Tech in to a consistent winner.

Texas Tech before Chris Beard with the exception of 1 season was a program that was 5-6 games below .500 each season for nearly a decade. He had them playing to win it all. He definitely has some credentials to make him a top candidate to coach here.

Have to agree. Did not think what he said was that bad. I did not take it trashing the fans. I still don’t like Cal. LOL
I really didn’t take it as trashing the fans either. But I didn’t like it either lol. Sometimes, you have to accept that you’re part of the problem. He has, and won’t imo, ever do that. That’s why I’d prefer he just move on. Thanks for what you have done, but scootch over, it’s time to take a mulligan. Hell, nobody wants to admit their way ain’t working. But sometimes, they have to be told before it’s too late. Well, it’s getting late.

I think he was lashing out at the fans because he knows losing to a garbage Notre Dame squad on your home floor will only make the "noise" (as he calls it) worse.
Agreed completely with the rest of your post.

I have stopped watching UK games this year. I already had apathy and OAD fatigue and it has gotten worse each year since 2015. However the reason I decided to NOT watch games this year is because of Cal and his BLM crap. That was the final straw. I got nothing against this team or the players, do not know them, or cant recognize any of them. I actually feel kind of sorry for them, because they are not being coached up. From what I read they are all long, great reach, and athletic, and yet, I doubt Cal is utilizing any of that, because he never has before.

I remember telling some friends after the NBA draft of 2010, with Orton leaving even though he played little during the season...Bledsoe and Cousins leaving when everyone earlier in the years thought they were at least 2 year players....and Cal making the statement that it was the greatest moment in UK basketball, that it seemed like Pandora's box had been opened. From that time on he seemed to push the NBA more and more...hence more players signing with him (more him than UK) just to get to the NBA in a year. Turned into a never ending cycle.

And I've also mentioned, and posted a number of times, that I would hate to be the next coach. Whoever it is (and whenever). Unless Cal's system changes somehow, the cupboard will be totally empty of players.

When you are trying to coach young kids and make them buy into what you're teaching you had better not pay attention to wins and losses.
There's not one person on this message board that would have the balls to buy in and have faith as a coach and do that

I actually tried to watch the Kansas game. Lasted about 5 minutes. Just can’t get into it. Maybe it’s more me getting older than the system, but I don’t think so. You can’t be a rabid fan for 50 years then suddenly not give a ****, can you? I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter, my interest is gone.

Did not watch the game. No need to when I knew what it was going to be. More ugly *** basketball, pitiful coaching. Also I have no desire to see Cal’s white privileges face, or hear him yelling and screaming and running onto the floor.

Who do I think can replace him, ANYBODY.

Losing 4 games in a row doesn't seem to be a big deal to him. Well, I think the last time we lost 4 games in a row was 1984-1985. UK fans are used to winning, we pay a coach a LOT of money to WIN, not LOSE. I can tell Cal, it is a big deal to UK fans. Maybe he should start paying attention to it. I'm not interested in his excuses, their for LOSERS, and Kentuckians are WINNERS.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
Imagine being one of these 18-year-old kids on this team. Now say for instance something he's trying to teach you in practice, he goes in depth on. When the game is on the line he tells u the opposite just to get a win. How would u feel about that? Would u trust the process?
This is all cal is trying to say here. He doesn't pay attention to the number at the end. As he shouldn't. You teach and preach discipline and actions and as long as they achieve these goals they will win.

It's the one thing that I've always been most impressed with cal on. He only focuses on his team and what they talk about behind closed doors. The wins will come once they learn the way. It's the reason he's been successful coaching freshman n nobody else has been on his level

I was very high on Beard last year at this time and I still am but, to a lesser degree. His team just wasn't very impressive when UK played them on their Home floor. They may have been too-hyped to play us or just inexperienced at that time. Not sure. Of course, that was one game and Beard seems to have his squad playing well this year. So, we will see what happens.

IMO, Brad Underwood might be worth watching as well. I like how he has built his current team. And I wonder who that familiar face is on his bench that might have had a hand in talent evaluation?

he's at Texas Tech. The fact that you expected more from his team while playing the highest paid coach at the best program in the sport sort of proves the point.

Beard is one of the next "old guard". His reputation is growing and there's zero chance he won't be at a blue blood program if he wants it. He'd be near the top of the list currently to replace Self.

Beard does not have resources and he's turned Texas Tech into a force. The reputation that UK would give him, the recourses, we've made hires way worse than that. Honestly, if he could handle the pressure, I think Beard could win multiple titles at UK. If he even sniffs an elite 8 in the next few years, it cannot even be stated how good of a hire that would be.

This is a ridiculous “hypothetical”. Why would he teach them something in practice he didn’t trust using in the game?

I wasn't saying that. I was just making a point that whatever they go over in practice is the only things he focuses on in the games. Whether they stay on script or not. That is what defines a win to him. Anyone that has critical thinking skills should never doubt his teaching.
How many times have you heard him say " if we get this number of rebounds and this number of deflections , that's a w" ??!?
It's literally all he cares about. Making sure the players are progressing n using in games what they are teaching in practice

You sound like a good dude. I do mean to come off that way at posters that constantly attack the program. I've loved having Cal here and he's done a fantastic job in my opinion. I apologize to you personally if I said something to offend you. I don't like losing conversation with rational posters. I do enjoy making the "others" mad though. Have a good evening.

Thanks for posting that.

Eh, I'm not going to attack him for saying what he said. Essentially all it means is he's blocking the outside noise, which is what he should do. He can't get into what we have to say, I get that.

But, how long is he going to pound his head against the wall to pad his NBA draft numbers? This looks exhausting.

Just keep in mind, it will take years for him to stop this train and move in a different direction. He can't change the state of this program on a dime, you pumpers need to understand that. It will take years to change it and that’s if he decides to change it, which I doubt he'll do.

Well stated- it’s not even his comments today really. It’s the entire culture shift of the program and lackluster play the last few seasons along with a revolving door of players. Apathy basically.

Not to mention shaming damn near the entire fan base while making more $ in 1 single game than many in life making in an entire lifetime. Preaching and pandering cringe blm (violent Marxist organization- nice sentiment- evil organization) and talking down to average folks (white and black) while making a gazillion $ a year. Talking about how much pRiVlAgE folks in KY have? One of the poorer states in the nation lol? Gotcha...

He comes across as a phony. He doesn’t “help generational poverty” with each and every one of these kids. In fact how is that not racist? Just because most of these kids we recruit are black doesn’t mean they’re dirt *** poor lol. Majority of these guys have dope *** Nike and UA gear, get to travel the country and live just fine. Being “poor” doesn’t mean “omg it’s so horrible! Generational poverty!” A ton of these guys lived better lives growing up than many of us but since they’re black cal thinks it’s helping “ghetto kids” get out of generational poverty.
He has no idea what actual generational poverty in the black community is- none at all.

He’s a typical white leftist and projects his own racism onto others. I lost a lot of respect for him over the summer. He bended the knee.

And before anyone says “don’t bring politics into it!” I didn’t. He did. All of college basketball/football did. It’s left a sour taste in many fans mouths (white and black) which is why you saw absolutely absurd declines in ratings for the NBA playoffs and NBA finals this year. Some of the worst in the history of the sport.

Edit- despite all this I still like Cal and I’m not ready to necessarily fire him yet. I will always always always be grateful to him for literally reviving our program overnight. He was the perfect match at the perfect time and he made being a UK fan insanely fun again for quite a few years but it’s becoming clear that he needs the absolute best of the best along with at least some marginal players coming back to have consistent good seasons and deep runs. Both of which have been lacking the last several years.

He'll get another year. UNC is on UK's level and they were 14-19 last season. If they then have another poor start and consequent bad season he will leave(Im just gonna go with the word leave here). A Coach with the success he's had here for 11 seasons isn't and shouldn't be run off after 1 poor season.

Im not worried about his quote. You're free to take from it whatever you want. Sounds like a coach trying to lessen the pressure on his players. He shouldn't have brought it up honestly. We don't need to hear what he's telling these guys behind closed doors so that they don't feel the pressure of losing from the fans. In a way, and Im not trying to be political here, but in a way he's like Donald Trump and that's I believe he likes to hear the sound of his own voice. Cal just doesn't tweet 50 texts a day.
Williams got a pass because of 3 Natty's at UNC and back to back FF's.

Cal has talked big. About passing UCLA in titles, etc. You better back it up if you're gonna bring it up.

Cal needs to reevaluate himself. He's always walked the line and has, at times, gotten under the skin of others. Well that was mostly in his younger days at UMass when he tried hard to make a name for himself.
But now, he's slipping and this thing is caving in on him. He is smart enough to fix this, but only if he wants to.
That BLM stuff is something he just needed to stay away from. Especially in his situation. He has to be very careful what he says, everything he says gets disected, as it should. He screwed it up and let his Alligator mouth override his gerbil ***.
As far as basketball, this thing has gotten away from him. It’s getting uglier and uglier every year and he has to change it and do it fast. But that will require him to go against everything he’s said and done the last ten years.
We're about to find out just how stubborn he is and how dedicated to uk he is.
I bet he stays the course and digs the whole even deeper. He doesn't have the balls to change it up. He's too comfortable.

The people that pay his salary pay attention to it. IMO it’s time for him to move along. He lost the eye of the tiger after 2015 and never got it back. Hell Tubby Smith looks better. Can we please make our next hire someone who understands what it takes here? It’s not the University of Calipari. And since he’s not paying any attention to it, I’ll be damned if I’ll pay any attention to him. 1-8 staring at us up ahead. Then maybe he pulls his large head out of his ***.

You have no basis or privilege to have an informed opinion on what a basketball coach should or should not say to the fans. He doesn't need your, mine or anyone else's approval. He's the boss.
"He's the boss"? He might be the boss of the players but he's not the boss of much else. When the fans speak loudly enough, he's gone.

I think its a non-issue. Why would he care? He coaches his team and does what he and the staff think is right. The fans reactions to those results are totally irrelevant to him and his staff and should be. I didn't say he and the staff didn't care. I said they should care less about your (fans) opinions on him, the team, a player, a play or a result.
I’d like some of whatever drugs you are on because that is the LEAST UK fan thing I’ve ever seen anyone say. I mean damn....
