This is the second one I seen and the other one had Ben Stille and Khalil Davis number 1 and 2. We are eventually not as bad as some seem to think. GBR

some context:
a “win” is defined as a play where the pass-rusher is able to beat his block within a time of 2.5 seconds

Stille (5) and Davis (3) were 2nd and 3rd on the team in sacks last year, so this makes sense. Need to couple it with some edge pressure this year.

So 2 “pressures” per game? Is that good? What is the definition of a pressure?

What is the sack/pressure ratio? Like how many sacks did a player have vs just a pressure? If a player has 10 sacks and 24 pressures, that is different than a guy who has 4 sacks and 24 pressures. One gets home, one almost gets home.

well, Stille had 5 sacks to 24 pressures, Davis 3 to 24, so basically 1 every 5/8 respectively. I'd guess those are middle of the road, maybe a little above avg for interior linemen, but just a guess.

huskers ranked T6 in the B1G in sacks last year with 25 total.

I don't know what these stats mean really on their own, either.

I didn’t say it’s good nor bad. But I am pointing out we obviously aren’t as bad as SOME claim. Facts and stats don’t lie...like Top_Gun is pointing out...its pressure from the edge we need to jump forward with. But when it comes to the BIG...we have two guys that are constantly at the top for QB pressure and pass-rush won percentage. Flip it or twist to your own view all you want...but it is what it is. Sure, last year some of ours guys didn’t bring the QB down...but for year one, getting to the QB and making the QB rush his throw or making the QB move or take off...that’s not to shabby.

Both Davis and Stille showed flashes last year. Davis has improved his hands and is pretty good at stunts.

They would be much better off with a true edge rusher to take some attention away from them.

So you don’t know if it’s good or bad, then post 2 paragraphs about how it’s good??

I too rewatched the nw game. Most of our pressures came from our safeties, not our backers.
But, they also carved us up throwing passes at mid depths, where it took just so long to get past our backers.
I think we switch it up going forwards, if we get the good backer rush.
Having bigger and faster safeties will then go a long ways.

My biggest concern based on last season was the terrible decision making and schemes involving LBs and safeties . Obviously, edge rushing was absent and and times content to play patty cake with opposing OL.

Your reading comprehension is way out of wack today brotha...wow. Here, I’ll quote it again “This is the second one I seen and the other one had Ben Stille and Khalil Davis tied for number 1. We are eventually not as bad as some seem to think. GBR”. I’m pretty sure all I say is we aren’t as bad as some think. I’m not making A statement saying “Oh we are AWESOME” nor am I saying “Oh we suck...boo hoo”. I’m implying we aren’t as bad as some think...period. And when it comes to the BIG alone...we aren’t.

This is the post I am referring to, my reading comprehension is just fine.

AJ Epenesa and Chase Young had 10.5 sacks and 9.5 sacks respectively, both are returning and neither is on the tweet you provided. The fact that they have less than 20 hurries and about 10 sacks tells me that they get to the QB and don't almost get to the QB.

Edit - Willington Prevlion had 2 sacks for 15 yards last year and he is number 1 on the list in the first slide.

Raequan Williams had 2 sacks for 13 yards, he is number 3 on the list in the 2nd slide.

I get you are trying to have a positive slant on this topic, but I am still unable to see where this is at all relevant to showing that the pass rush last year isn't as bad as it seems.

And QB hurries and being disruptive is a good thing as well. With any luck, these two will get the QB down more this season. But making a QB rush his throws and potentially into a bad decision, that’s not a bad thing either. Trust me, I agree. I wish they got the QB down more too, but if not...QB hurries is the next best thing and can lead to INTs which is WAY better then a sack. My hole point was we have guys getting pressure on the QB was all. We have a number of guys that claimed we didn’t and This shows their dead wrong.

I am not trying to take anything away from Stille or Davis. Clearly they were 2 of the best interior pass rushers last year on a team that ranked 103rd in QB sacks.

But if I read that metric correctly, it is the percentage of times the DL gets past the OL in less than 2.5 seconds. So, 90 times out of 100, opposing OL holds their block when matched up against our best returning pass rushers and I am supposed to believe this shows that our pass rush was better than people think? I wish I shared your positive outlook on the pass rush.

Also, after reading the PFF stuff a little more indepth, the reason you don't see Epenesa or Chase Young on the list is because they are edge rushers. PFF would rate them with our OLBs.

Hey you me allowed your view and I got mine. I know we definitely need more edge help that’s for sure but I have always disagreed on our interior not doing a thing. We just both see it differently and that’s fine. We both bleed Husker red. GBR

Yep, this if for the interior Dline. Stille and K Davis rank with the best of them. But I’m not worried about the OSUcks and Iowa guy. I’ll let their fans pound chests about them.

See this is where you lose me. I will gladly discuss statistics with you but you didn't specify that this was just interior linemen. You just said that there was something interesting about our pass rush and then posted 2 tweets from PFF with no info other than your opinion that this is some sort of positive news for the future pass rush at Nebraska.

So when I brought up the two edge rushers, you didn't say anything about this being just interior linemen. I wasn't pounding chests about them, I questioned why they weren't on the list? The fact that you didn't simply say, this is interior linemen, leads me to believe that you didn't know it was just interior guys either. Simply making that point would have ended the discussion 15 posts ago.

My bad brotha, on the deals it does say BIG DIS which is interior Dline. It didn’t even dawn on me you was thinking the DTs, NT, and DEs. But that’s why a couple of us said we needed Edge help. Still, my bad...I should have made it clear it was interior Dline.

The Davis Twins and Stille are all solid pass rushers as Defensive Ends in the 3-4. But this scheme will always live and die with edge rushers wreaking havoc from the outside linebackers.

If that is the case, we are in trouble. Who fits that description?

This just tells me that both guys are probably about average for interior linemen in a 3-4 system. By design they are intended to soak up blocks and give the linebackers an advantage with numbers. Neither of these 2 are dominant, but dominant NTs and DEs are hard to find in college and generally they are only dominant in their senior year.

As much as we would all love to see our d-linemen have numbers like Wistrom and Peter, it just isn't going to happen in a 3-4, and if it does our defense will be really, really good.
