UGA and then Florida, SCarolina, Vandy and LSU with multiple Natl Championships in baseball.
Never thought I’d see 3 of those schools with one before we got one.
We’ll get one at some point hopefully. Hopefully I’m alive to see it.

I honestly had no idea the SEC had so few baseball championships (outside of LSU) and they’ve all been in the last 10 years (again, other than LSU and Georgia 30 years ago). For whatever reason, that actually makes me feel better about our chance to get one some day.

Didn’t Polk coach Georgia to theirs?

LMAO Hell no!

Polk couldn't coach a team to a national championship if he was handed one. Actually he was in 1985 and finished THIRD in the SEC.

MSU's "Best Coach of all time" is a complete failure. Shocking isn't it? While we watch Bertman, Corbin, and Sullivan continue to win titles, we sit back and enjoy "just making it to Nebraska". I guess going the cheap route with the no name Indiana coach paid off so we could pay off the stadium.

And this my friends is why MSU will never win a national championship in baseball.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone come out and just say Polk is the best coach we ever had. His significance isn't because of his coaching ability, it's what he did for MSU and the SEC.

And who the hell is just happy about a trip to Nebraska? Where was all this expertise back during the season MMQB? Oh and 99% of coaches that ever won anything started out at an "Indiana."

You are a tad rough on Polk (the man did take 3 different programs to the CWS, which is pretty rare company) but I do agree that one of the worst mistakes we ever made was begging him not to retire in 1991. If you take away the seasons that Pat McMahon returned as associate head coach, Polk 1.1 and 2.0 were nearly two wasted decades. Also note that around that time is when the balance of power in the SEC swapped in LSU's favor. It would be interesting to see our series results vs LSU before and after 1991.

Please go pull for Bama; you are one miserable fan!

According to your 'logic,' EVERY single coach is or was 'complete failure.'

Didn’t Polk coach Georgia to theirs?

UGA won theirs in 1990 - a CWS that had MSU, UGA, Georgia Southern, LSU, Stanford, CSF, OSU, and the Citadel (with Chris Lemonis and Dan McDonnell). UGA beat OSU in the final.
Steve Webber was the coach, and future UGA HC Dave Perno was on the team. Webber left after '96 for the Yankees organization, then UGA had a disastrous 3 years under Robert Sapp (who had won multiple JUCO NC's at Middle GA College). Polk was brought in in 2000 to stabilize the program, and took UGA to the 2001 CWS, then returned to MSU. Perno took over for 2002, and took UGA to 3 CWS (2004, 2006, 2008)8) - including runner-up in 2008, and was fired in 2013.

THIS was the turning point in MSU baseball until we finally got serious about being competitive again in the early 2010s (other than a brief 4 years with McMahon). If we had hired McMahon or Johnson in 1991, we'd probably have multiple national title by now and it would be MSU and LSU that led the SEC through the 1990s and 2000s.

Dave Fleming was the UGA ace. We faced him in the first game, got a leadoff hit and then if I remember correctly got a total of 3 or 4 hits the rest of the game. That UGA team was really tough up and down the lineup. They dominated us like few teams have in a Saturday double header at Dudy Noble Field in the regular season.

Guys, since 1999, we've had 6 coaches (McMahon, Polk, Cohen, Cannizaro, Henderson, and now Lemonis). That's a whole lot. Arkansas (2 coaches and same one since 03) LSU (3-Manure since 07) Ole Miss (2-Bianco since 01) and Vandy (2-Corbin has been at Vandy since 03) and I'll throw Florida in there as well (2-O'Sullivan since 08). Do you see a pattern here and we're not a part of it???

I want to see us retain a coach for say 5-10 years minimum (if he's winning) and then let's see what we do. Lemonis came in and I thought did a great job this year. Were there some hiccups, yes, but we were a whole lot better than pre-season prognosticators believed we'd be. Lemonis is working his *** off on recruiting and with his 11.7 scholarships that he can work with (yes, kiss my *** Vandyboys!! and I believe that something will give on that situation eventually) and let's just get some regularity in our program.

If enough of the big boys start bitching about Vandy's unfair advantage (did I really just say that?? ha) and maybe the toothless NCAA will step in and up the 11.7 to at least say 20 (25 would be incredible). I really just want us to get some normalcy within the program after what transpired over the last three years. Lord knows we need some calming relief!!
