Apologies if posted previously. Great article that sums up the zeitgeist.
I read this earlier , but I can't get past his quote where he says ILL sucks now, and we are wildly unpredictable or something.

Unpredictable as in whether we will win 8, 9 or 10 wins? Unpredictable which bowl we will attend? Unpredictable as to which game against (his team) we will win, this year or next?

"After he was stopped a yard shy, a three-year-old boy in Orland Park spoke his first complete sentence. “Should have run speed option to the short side of the field,” said young Patrick, much to the surprise of the Fitzgeralds."

The Sports Illustrated football issue then would include at least a sentence on each team - major conference only, I assume. They combined their comments about NU and Ill into "Can anyone win the Northwestern-Illinois game?" not anticipating the answer would be No.

That brought back so many fond memories of a great weekend... I was 19 and living on the North Shore. I had big plans...
First, it started with sweltering at that exciting game, then getting in my car to visit a friend at Wash U in St Louis, who told me to "just get off at the Kingshighway exit."
**Warning** For those of you who don't live in the St Louis area (and I did not at the time), there is a Kingshighway exit in EAST St Louis, as well as St Louis. It was well past sundown when I chose the wrong exit. Chevy Chase should try it sometime.
Some hours later, after a short, but pleasant visit with my friend, I turned towards the real goal of my trip...visiting a sorority girl at Mizzou who had invited me down. I was about halfway to Columbia from St Louis when I was sidelined by an overheated engine...before I left Wilmette on that scorching drive the mechanic had "checked my radiator and replaced a few hoses" but forgot to put the clamps back ON the hoses. Needless to say, without cell phone availability I was not well received in Columbia 3 hours late, and the date was cancelled.
It too had been another drive stifled by the oppressive heat.
