Weirdest Feeling

There is a season opener tomorrow morning, a conference opener to boot. I have not really thought about the game let alone gotten hyped up--the first time in my lifetime and I am now north of 2 quarters. I truly am wondering if there is something wrong with me or if the magic is gone. If you have experienced a similar feeling but gotten it back for tomorrow's game and this season, I would love to hear what got you back excited for this coming season. TIA.

I had that happen this year and I think it’s just progressively gotten there. I truly feel if they start winning more regularly, it’ll come back to me.

Im still excited, I just don’t try to read or listen to everything like I did years ago.

It's a combination of covid and just the fact Nebraska has sucked for so long. I am getting excited for today just not nearly as much as I used to be.

Your not alone, I enjoy watching the game. I'm not excited about the game like I was for most of my life.

Also, I won't any longer drive the 9 hours it takes to get to Lincoln to go to a game. I could have traveled to watch this weekend , it's much closer. I did not.

I'd suspect that the younger you are in Nebraska the less likely you are to have an interst in the Huskers . The Fan base is the older individuals that grew up arpund the tradition. Eventually the losing will take its toll, even on them.

It's not just you. I'm going to the game today and I'm excited about it for sure. That being said, on game day I used to absolutely plan my day around gametime to be able to catch everything on TV. Nowadays, I still try to watch the game but if I miss it I'm not that upset. A loss also used to put me in a funk the rest of the day, that has lessened for sure.

Speaking of game day. They have a convo with frost up in a bit. We should get decent coverage today as we are the marquee matchup today

Thought I really didn't care that much anymore. But....started getting really excited yesterday afternoon. I don't think it is the losing or uninspired play that has put a damper on my enthusiasm, but that contributes. I just think as I've gotten older not a whole lot is as exciting as it used to be and other life priorities now seem more important than movies, sporting events, concerts and the like.

My feelings are, at least temporarily. My excitement has been building these last few weeks and I am excited, but it is definitely tempered by the feeling that our staff isn't the one to get us back to good. That likely means another 2 to 3 years of meh, followed by another min. 2 to 3 for a new staff to (hopefully) get it figured out. The immediate future isn't super bright. Would love to be proven wrong and see us take it to the opponent this year.

I'm in the same boat. I swallowed the hook 50 years ago watching Nebraska win the game of the century at age 7. After decades of being on RSS and reading Husker stuff every day, I had the hook removed last year. There's enough **** going on in this world that is more important, but yeah I'm still here, just less invested. I realize now that our return to greatness probably has a ceiling that is about equivalent to Northwestern. Sigh. GBR.

Exactly. As you get older IMO you start to understand that there are bigger things than the W/L record of Husker football. I LOVE the buildup to kickoff. I'm sitting here right now with butterflies in my stomach just like I was going to run out on that field myself. If we win it will put me in a better mood for a few days. If we lose it will put a damper on my week but it as I get older I've just gotten to where I remember very quickly that it's a game and there's way more to life. "More Than Winning"-TO. GBR!

With all due respect. The above post is compete and utter nonsense.

Not sure I can get excited for any game with #2 behind center... You never know when he will implode.
or when he'll make a great play. You do remember that he made some great plays too right? IF he has his mind right he can be a difference maker for us. No doubt he makes you hold your breath some times.

I just don't understand this?
either do I, it looks like the hezekiah or canaanite tunnel and some easy to carve caves I went to in israel.
i'm going to guess and say they have tunnel vision? and it said they are blocking out the noise on the semi's to start the video? so thats good we definitely want to focus on the task at hand.

I'll watch the game today but I don't feel any great excitement. In fact I've gone from never miss a home game to only planning to attend three home games this season (Fordham, Michigan and Ohio State). I will also be in Norman for the Oklahoma game in a few weeks. This season, unless the stupid indoor mask mandate continues in Lancaster County, I will attend more volleyball matches than football games.

Funny thing is, I didn’t realize there was a game on today until I took my car to the wash and here I am watching it. How little anything has changed in the last few years.

i don’t get excited anymore. Just waiting out the Frost era I guess. Same sloppy play, same crap from #2, same lack of whatever-you-want-to-call it.

We have recruited Top 20 classes year after year. Recruiting circles around our division. Seems like a good coach should be able to do a lot more worth that.
Recruiting rankings, meh. I'd like to see the rankings redone when these kids hit their SR year in college. Example...Would you rate AM a four star now?

Born in 1957. I remember all the big games from about 1969 on. After Frankie was let go I still was excited though kinda bummed. Petersen. Callahan. On and on. It’s not the same and I doubt I’ll ever see anything close to the Devaney/Osborne success. I still watch but it barely keeps my attention. I’ll admit it. It saddens me but it’s not everything.
