But it allowed them to completely reopen the economy after a short shutdown.

Many on here are willing to kill people for a fully open economy, New Zealand did it without that.

Quarantined all visitors and shut down completely for 4 weeks.

After that 4 week shutdown, they opened back up. And were playing Rugby with 35,000 fans in the stands in June.

How many on here wish we had done that instead of what we did?
We could actually have sports with fans in the stands of our weak minded population had any balls at all.

In our current situation?

This would be LMFAO if you were not serious

This would cripple our medical system and kill 100,000+ needlessly...

We have college parties infecting 100's with relatively small groups packed together for hours. You think packing together 100,000 fans all day once a week all over the country wouldn't cause millions of cases?

Of course we could. Wear a covering and move on. Do what you need to do to protect yourself. Vulnerable people stay home. The virus isn't nearly as deadly as you think.

The problem is the litigious society. THAT is the only reason we "can't" do it. If someone would just stand up against this bull it would stop and we can get back to normal. Safety is a personal responsibility. Sign a waiver and move on.

Take a look at Hospitalization numbers in Sweden. It shows that cases were dropping rapidly even sooner than the daily new cases data. L4 has a point about the Swedes going on vacation because that is something they do, but he fails to consider that that might not be the only explanation and also ignores similar trends seen in USA states.
What L4 avoids to tell us is what happens if we all followed procedure and the numbers went down. What then? Just continue to wait it out? I see many people say we "missed our chance" to have normal fall when we re-opened too quickly. Well that's nonsense, because as soon as numbers went up people would freak out yet again. What's the end game? Do nothing until a vaccine? That's just not going to happen, especially when people are slowly figuring out that this virus is not as deadly as they think. People are waking up slowly.

In L4’s world, IL, HI, and others obviously are not following the rules (even with strict mandates and masks) because their numbers are going up. GA, FL, and other who are going down with less restrictions are obviously doing it voluntarily (yeah right) and well, Sweden who he trashed for months, is only going down to zero because of vacation homes?

Either way, still no end game laid out. Assuming no vaccine, which country has the best chance for consistent normalcy going forward? It isn’t NZ or Australia. And how long can Hawaii stay isolated? This will be all but over in the southern states in 3 months and they are going to be still trying to figure out how many more lockdowns it is gonna take.

What y'all also failed to point out is L4 has no sources or no links for any of his propaganda. He bumped a month old thread just to spew more garbage. He is on all boards with his propaganda. He just needs to go away.

The Virus is real, it's not some political tool.

And it kills people. More importantly, with no treatment, it overwhems our medical system.

A "Waiver" doesn't help when we have no space to keep people.

A Mask is not a magic force field. It reduces transmission, by a lot, but putting people sitting next to each other, hip to hip, for 3-4 hours will spread the virus.

Public health is not a "Personal responsibility", it's a public responsibility. If I decide to start shitting in your house water line, it's not going to make me sick.

The goal the entire time has been flatten the curve to prevent overwhelming the medical system.

Wearing a mask, Staying 6 ft away from others, washing your hands are things that reduce the spread. Reducing the spread allows us to be able to open the economy and "get back to normal".

HOWEVER, when evidence shows that cases are increasing, you have to reduce the spread in other ways, like shutting down the places where it's spreading (like bars, parties, restaurants https://www.texastribune.org/2020/06/26/texas-bars-restaurants-coronavirus-greg-abbott/).

This will continue until we have a vaccine, or a treatment/cure.

L4 has told you thins since March...

You can sign a waiver but the person holding the waiver can not sign away his liability if he knows there is a risk. That is elementary risk management. Waivers are worthless.

Only to get shut down again once there is the slightest uptick.

It's all good though, you answered my question. You basically want us to do nothing until there is a vaccine.

People are increasingly not going to accept that ****, just for your information. Basically because it's not necessary. If you are healthy now, at this point, you need to be responsible going forward for your health because you now know there is a virus that can kill you with bad health (like most other viruses). People with pre-existing conditions need to avoid others until they reach a point where they have confidence going back out in public. That's the reality of it. Your bad health is no one else's problem.

No. Ignorance at it's finest. The rules do NOT make it go away. The reduce the spread. That is something that a few of you simply can not comprehend. By the way, the first documented case of reinfection has been reported in Hong Kong. The guy caught it after testing negative 4 months ago. That is about in line with what was predicted. The good news, for him, is that it hasn't been very bad this time. For the rest of us though.....On Sweden, as i said to you a month ago, let's see what happens toward the end of September there. If they stay down then we need to look at what they actually did. You seem to be living under the fantasy that they didn't do anything. That is absolutely NOT true. What they effectively did, not what they mandated, was actually stricter than what we effectively did. If people had done things right, we might actually have it under control here. Instead we have refused to do even the simplest things. We have rampantly ignored the guidelines even when they carry the force of law. My understanding is the Swedes pretty much followed the voluntary guidelines. Have you ever been there? If you have that should be no surprise.

Now do Peru... lockdown since March, Mandatory Mask, Military enforced curfews, essential businesses like grocery stores only open a few hours a day, very few flights except expatriate flights.... numbers going thru the roof.

I see your spelling is, as usual, spot on. And, although I consider it personal information, I use a hundred pound feed sack and a length of wench cable.

The spelling is just for you.

Off the top of my head.....poor Latin American country. Get it started in the slums and you won't stop it. Multi generational families living in small overcrowded housing is not good. Now as I said, that is just a guess off the top of my head but I think it's a reasonable guess.

Looking at on-campus positive tests:
August 10-14 (week before class started): 16 (14 students)
August 17-21 (first week of class): 73 (70 students)

32% of total cases detected on campus since beginning of COVID-19 were detected this past week.

I'm not blaming anyone. Don't try to start a strawman.

I guess your next point is that we're in this together, need to take care of each other, etc. That's just ignorant shame techniques. In this day and age, we have the best medical advice, information and treatment in the history of man. It's not difficult to take care of yourself and it's up to everyone to do what they have to do. You really don't need that much help from others.

Nobody can stay home. It's a simple choice. They stay home, or we all stay home. Why are we making rules based on a small portion of the population?

Your resistance to personal responsibility is the real issue here. But we all get it, you are either profiting off this or a typical leftist who is way too scared and worried about security for his own good.

You do realize there were more people on campus after, thus naturally the numbers will go up? Not sure if you factored in this simple nugget of basic sense.

Socioeconomic disparities of this thing is an untold story. If you have a tiny house with 4 adults and 9 kids, you aren't social distancing and you aren't staying inside. And that's just the beginning of the high risk items...

It's not a small portion of the population, it's 40% of adults in the US. You would be very wrong on both accounts about me. The only Democrat above the county level I have ever voted for was the first vote I ever cast, John Stennis. I actually laugh at you guys who think I'm a leftist because of my stance on COVID. It reveals quite a lot about YOU, not me. I also laugh that you think I'm profiting by it, that is REALLY hilarious. I want it to go away, NOW. Unlike you I do realize that wishing it away or basically doing nothing is the absolute worst thing we can do. If we had done better to begin with we would be in a much better position right now. Instead we were too busy trying to make ourselves believe that it was all a plot to get rid of Trump and wasn't really killing people. Even wearing a damn mask, a simple mask, somehow became a constitutional crisis in some people's minds. That is just astoundingly ridiculous. It's asinine.

So what did they do? Let's hear it.
I'll give you a little help. Read the first 4 articles. The key differences are there. They did more than we did, they just didn't mandate it, they didn't have to. Their people were smarter than ours. I'll add two other things: 1)They restricted travel in and out of Stockholm for a while, as in it was pretty much banned. 2) They didn't require businesses to close but many did anyway. They were hard hit by supply chain stuff.
