All...." CS8" . Ratsy

Centralia @ SHG
Metamora @ Chatham
Belleville West/Rochester I assume this at Belleville since the Rockets hosted last year.
All.... Early start time 4:30pm for the SHG/ Centralia scrimmage game tomorrow at Ken Leonard Field. Centralia to Springfield is a fairly long road trip. Orphan players likely get a half day off. That's worth it. Ratsy

Williamsville and Mt. Zion announced the cancellation of their scrimmage today. Williamsville's press release did not state a reason.

Woof! That place could even make Jeff "PI" Lurkendall's huge wife say she's full!!!
Made that mistake once before jumping on the Redbird Express. Excellent food, huge portions.
Another food option that is actually en route and nearby is the Cat'n'Fiddle Tavern - 75 years family owned and they serve the best fried fish (cod or cat) in the area. Jalapeño tartar sauce it amazing. Wash it down with an ice-cold Stag brew.

Not sure what to think of the Morris/Dekalb scrimmage. Is Dekalb supposed to be as bad as they were last year? They only had 1 first down all night. Morris had 4 TDs, 2 rushing and 2 passing. Defense looked good swarming to the ball. Some good runs from the Morris RBs.

Is this supposed to be an up year for Morris?

Have a good amount of kids back so they should be better than last year. I can see them going anywhere from 9-0 to 6-3. I see Peoria and Sycamore as toss up games and all I know about Byron Center, MI is that they took it to Morris last year and finished as state runner up, but no clue what they look like this year.

They will benefit from their schedule come playoff time with them more likely to end up in 4A this year due to all the multiplied and success factored teams above them. It's far too early to plan for a Morris/Montini or Rochester showdown but they should make a run.

I can't make this one...Looking forward to your assessment rocketnation!
Freshman- So So, lots of arm tackling and not the talent of the last two freshmen classes but they did produce some big plays on offense.

JV- Played well even though 4 or 5 of their best players are now strictly varsity. The Freshman QB also took all the JV snaps with both the Gregory's and Gade playing varsity.

Varsity-Defense was a mix, forcing 2 turnovers but also giving up two big plays (though one was called back). Offense had some good outside runs and two long pass plays, one for a TD. The pass blocking, however, was not great and they were unable to punch it in on a 4th and goal run.

Thank you for the write-up, Sir.

I noticed the Freshmen last year in JFL as 8rh graders seemed like an atypical class...slower and less enthusiasm. The oldest son of DL was their QB last year. Is he the Freshman QB?

That's concerning about varsity on the defensive side. Hoping they find a way to get that cleaned up by next Saturday.

DL's son is the freshman QB.

Gibson Southern scored in the final minute tonight to edge Danville (IN) 35-28. Will having played a game be an advantage for them next week or could that be offset by a 200 mile bus trip for an afternoon game?

Belleville W is a 7A/8A school. They did have some size on the OL/DL, a decent QB, and 1 good WR.

IMO, Rochester's defensive play will be the biggest barometer for their level of success this season.

Not what you want to hear prior to a matchup with Gibson Southern whose biggest strength is their defensive line.

Lockport scrimmaged internally. Good numbers, decent size but nothing jumped out to me. To be fair I have no clue who sat out etc…so I didn’t take anything away from the scrimmage.

Anything significant from this? Only thing I heard from the games was some unfortunate news that a player from Stevenson broke his leg

Believe both of these were played on Friday:
Depaul @ Libertyville
Payton @ Niles North

Anyone see these or have the cliffnotes?
