I agree that the passing game is the strength of the team but I don’t agree that we should become completely one dimensional and throw the ball 50 times or more per game.. RU passed the ball 40 times for 330 yds against Iowa and lost by 10 points. Keeping the defense off balance by running 25+ times a game is imperative for better results. Expect conf opponents to play the CBs in aggressive press coverage more and blitz much more . Iowa did that and it’s why the passing game was less effective in the 2nd half. Additionally, AK is going to get hit a lot more with throwing 75% of the time. They need to keep him healthy. I think a good mix is 30-35 runs and passes per game if possible, about a 50% split is optimal.
Is he significantly Improved or is performance improved by a post-Monangai playcalling shift relying on our good WRs instead?
I‘d say the latter, just like Sam Darnold didn’t finally improve but rather benefitted from the top receivers on the Vikings.

Yes and no- he is 100% more accurate on his throws and his release has become lightning quick. Looking off primary and making good decisions.
but yes, play calling is also better for him but tgat may also be because he has 2 NFL WR’s as well
I do think the stats, and that’s what the improvement claim is based on, is mostly due to the playcalling/supporting cast this year, but it doesn’t matter. He’s playing very well.
We need to run the ball if only to keep the OL and RB ABLE to run the ball for those short-yardage situations where running is the better option. What's the old saying.. when you run the ball only 2 bad things can happen but when you pass there are three (or more)?
I do think if we PASS a lot.. SUCCESSFULLY.. and AK gets a lot of notice, as do the WRs.. it will help us for years. That is, we can attract better HS and transfer QBs and WRs... and OLs who like to pass block for potent passing Os... because that is what the NFL is.. largely.. passing offenses. RB recruiting may take a hit.. unless we can work on RB passes.. or SAY we are doing that "next year" if they come.
So, passing has benefits beyond winning games this year... imho, of course.
This is a good point- If AK has this type of year- it can really lead to top WR's and maybe even a top QB to consider us in the portal. What may be tough, is keeping both Duff and Strong next year. They coming into some serious NIL considerations next year. But if we do keep them- If I were a really good QB in the portal- I would give Rutgers a hard look if we can also come up with the cash.

If he , the QB and OL remain healthy this year, I agree. He looks like a day 2 draft pick to me (2nd or 3rd rd). He looks like a faster version of Sanu imo. They will need to keep Duff for next season.
Yeah- more worried about Strong going to the NFL vs the portal. Question though- let's say he projects as a 2nd/3rd round but could also get a potential $2mil Nil to stay another year and move into a 1st round pick. Which way do you go?
I can't see his production falling off the remainder of this year- he will most likely have 75+ catches if he stays healthy
Here is another question that some here will laugh at - If AK continues his production- does he get into a camp next year? He actually is starting to look the part. Besides his better accuracy, he also is getting throws off very quick and confident. Right on the mark and actually pretty accurate with the deep throws.

You should know. A bird in the hand. Not smart to stick around. Strong’s draft stock will be based on combine metrics, not experience or career stats.
And he may not have the same chemistry with a first year starting QB anyway.
There is a lot to consider...pre-NIL if you are a 1-3 round guy, you leave. With NIL- if you want to bet on yourself- take a nice senior payday in NIL and go for the 8 figure contract vs the 7 figure contract

It will be really hard to keep them.. but maybe they have faith in Surace. Anywhere else they'd go that could pay a lot, they'd have to worry about snaps and targets. Here, their NFL profile would remain high. Of course, Strong might be NFL-ready now. He'll hear it if he is. He should trust Schiano on that. btw. Schiano made no effort to keep Rice. He told him what the scouts were all saying. I think Schiano would make every effort to make sure our players get teh best info.

Bet on yourself to do what ? Get faster ? And you’re not only betting on yourself. You’re also betting on an untested QB.
Pass plays are 46.5% of the plays calls this season vs. 43.3% last year. So that's not much of a shift in play calling by Kirk.
Everyone has improved between Athan and the WRs and this shouldn't be a surprise given what we saw in the back half of last season. He's getting the ball out quickly and on time. You don't see many throws behind WRs thus far. Some of that is also due to the blocking.
We also have to give AK credit for making the WR's jobs much easier as well. AK is putting the ball in place for YAC as well as in spots where only our WR's have a chance to catch it. These are the best group of 3 since Britt/Underwood/Brown. And Strong/Duff/DT all fight for the ball like they own it.
What I want to follow a little closer as the season moves on- when AK get's pressured, I have not watched to see what these 3 do, have they been breaking off their routes to help their QB out? Also- have not seen much of how they are blocking downfield but that may be because our passes have been outside the hash most of the time. Those are the two final things I want to watch with our WR's
