I'd like to take partial credit for Wausa-Osmond's big win over Bloomfield last week. After picking against them, assistant coach (and former WSC teammate of mine) Brad Wright let me HAVE IT in a text message saying I provided bulletin board material for their troops and something about a picture of me having darts thrown at it? I definitely probably (think Taylor Martinez quote) embellished most of that last sentence but I did talk to Coach Wright and congratulated him on a big win and wished him well vs my Hartington High Wildcats this week. Who am I picking in that one? Not even a Brian Blevins hulk rage armbar could get that out of me! But anyway as Dustin Kronhofman likes to say, "Shut the f**k up, John", so lets get into the picks...

Class B: Scottsbluff over Gering...2014 West Nebraska All Star Game, one of the most fun weeks I've ever had. Jud Hall, Derek Deaver, and late nights at Todd Menghini's. The Bluffs by a million!

Class C1: Wahoo over Mt. Michael...while most kids were watching cartoons growing up, I was watching film of Killer Kane and Mick Anderson coached teams.

Class C2: WP Beemer OVER Norfolk Catholic...Have I been known to have a drink before noon? Sure. Did I watch a really good WPB team in person last Friday? Yes and I'm saying their ***** of schedule pays off down the road.

Class D1: Tri-Co NE over Wakefield...two 0-5 teams who have played tough schedules and someone has to win. The first time I met Dave Uldrich he was ripping a heater showing us to the visitors locker room in Allen. I asked Blair Kalin if that was the janitor, it was not. Huge Dave Uldrich fan!

Ravenna over Arcadia LC...flip the script on this one, 5-0 vs 5-0. Have to go with the Bluejays because Josh Deines said so!

Class D2: Bancroft Rosalie over Winside...really impressive turnaround at Winside but when I was at WSC we went there for wings one night and they sucked. Sorry not sorry.

Loomis over Hitchcock Co....Speaking of that 2014 West NE all star game, one of the nicest (and best) young men I ever got to coach was Tye Spies. He's now running the show at Loomis and has them rolling. I coached the kid for one week and he still calls me coach. Means a lot, ya know?

Class D6: SEM over WaPa...1964 grad and Sumner great, Ron Simmons (look him up if you haven't) was coached by the legendary Charlie Thorell. I'll be honest that might be the first time in my life I didn't say Coach Thorell. Coach would go on to be a business partner/ co-worker of my dad's for 30+ years and he had great stories about Simmons. Even if they hadn't of been great you would damn well act interested because Coach Thorell scared the **** out of me!

Have a damn good weekend everyone, high school football is awesome!
