Do you all think games will be rescheduled for Thursday? As of right now heavy rain is expected next Friday.

It's just not worth the wear and tear on the field, the risk of injury, or the fact it lowers attendance and gate receipts if you play in bad weather.

Alot more awareness and thought goes into decisions now that didn't 20, 30, 40 years ago.

Yeah, but there is a difference between a field getting town up in Sept and in Nov. In Sept, you still have a lot of the season to go and don't want your field in bad shape. If a field gets torn up in Nov. the season is about over and you have until the end of Aug. 2023 to get it back in shape. And if a hosting school has an artificial field, no way the game should be moved due to rain. I thought that was the whole reason of installing an artificial field. Even though I despise artificial fields and think they are an abomination.

Isn’t football played outside?? 🤦‍♂️
The concern isn't about the players, it's more about the gate revenue. Since Football Revenue is the majority driver in supporting the other sports like Wrestling, Track and Field, Baseball and Volleyball that have small to none crowds. People, especially Students, Elderly and Women at most of these School won't show up if it's a downpour. Not every school have a large following for home games and especially traveling 2-3 on the road at night. People aren't as Gunhoe like the old days to support their local school in very wet conditions.

I only remember 1 playoff game being moved for rain. I think Watauga had to move 1 once because of snow on roads.

Still cost money to repair, and if you are a higher seed that still has games to play you definitely don't want to play in bad turf in the next round or 2. Alot of fields take much more abuse at this point with the bermuda being dead and playing in the rain only makes it worse.

The days of playing in monsoons has passed us.

I just asked the question. It rained hard earlier in the season one week and most teams played on Thursday or Saturday so it doesn’t hurt to bring it up.
I’m just old school and grew up in Ohio and unless the roads are horrible or Hurricane like conditions I don’t see why a football game should be moved… The elements are still the same for both teams and I know as a kid it was fun to play in rainy conditions… I‘he cringed for years down here when schools have moved games because of a regular rainfall is supposed to be coming through… I also remember in 2017 when fans wanted the state championship games moved because of the snowfall which made it awesome to watch in my opinion

It has nothing to do with playing in the rain and more to do with the financial side of things.

I would love the Crest game to be moved to Saturday because that traffic in the rain trying to get to Oak Grove will suck ***..
Just a thought… I live a few miles from Oak Grove. Sometimes, when I’m trying to get south using 85, I’ll skip it altogether and take I-40 to 321 South. It is longer, but not terribly so. I also arrive much less stressed.

I’ve used NC Hwy 150 before and its worked pretty well too.

When Hurricane Hugo hit in 1989 it made landfall on September 22nd, a Friday, and that was the only time I can remember games being cancelled for rain in those days. The Freedom game that had been scheduled for that day was played on the following Monday, at McDowell. It was still raining, and the field was a mess, but they played.

It costs a lot of money to run an athletic program. WAY more than it did back in the 70s and 80s and even 90s.

My kid’s high school swim team pays 70 bucks a night to use a local YMCA for an hour. That Adds up. Quickly.
Plus, the $1.00 or more per mile that an activity bus costs the school…. Plus $350 per football helmet…. Plus $100+ per football…. The list goes on and on. Football gate revenue Funds a great portion of that.

Yesterday I was seeing 70% chance of rain for Friday in Charlotte area. Now 90%. Sounds like on the weather channel a big system coming in. Probably bringing in the cold front. If it does rain Friday we will see how everything plays out.

In December of 2003, Asheville played south point in literal blizzard like conditions with multiple inches of snow on the ground in the western regional final. You couldn’t see the SP fans from the Asheville sideline. That was kind of a freak thing so it wasn’t like we could have rescheduled, but it would have been nice to see 2 teams on 13 game winning streaks play on a good surface

9 months later in September of 2004, Asheville played again at home against Franklin, only this time it was moved to a Thursday because of hurricane ivan. Despite this, the game was called at halftime after a lightning delay postponed it and Macon county being threatened with literal killer mudslides. The game was moved up to Thursday because the heavier stuff was supposed to come down Friday. I remember 50 mph wind gusts in that game.

2 crazy weather games at Asheville high 9 months apart.

Personally, I would rather games be moved to Saturday than try to play them on a Friday in a cold pouring down rain just because that’s when high school football is played. As a fan, and as a player, it’s sucks. Especially if you’re on the losing end of it and your team had like 6 turnovers.

I get that as far as playing in a monsoon. If it has rained buckets for 12-24 hours before game time and a field is completely saturated, I am not saying play on that. The quality of play would be very bad in such conditions and a field would get destroyed. I am talking more light to moderate rain. If that happens, the game should go on Fri. night as scheduled. As well, Sat. night games are always preferable to me over Thurs. night. Thurs. night is a school night and most have to work the next day. Not so on a Sat. night. No need to worry about kids missing class on a Sat. if traveling 2-3 hours is a needed.

The problem is. You have to make a decision based on the forecast several days out. How do they know if it will be moderate rain heavy rain or no rain? Especially 2-3 days in advance
