Not ranked, but we're 29th in AP and 32nd in Coaches. Beat 2 top 25 teams in AP and 3 in coaches. Don't think anyone preseason would've believed that we'd be ranked over Clemson and Iowa State at this point. I looked at some AP ballots and most ignored us, but the voter in Columbus OH had us 16th. I'd expect us to jump in if we beat Arkansas.

It’s pretty ridiculous that UK is at 17/18 in the polls while we are unranked. No one who watched that game last night could possibly come to the conclusion that Kentucky is better than us.

Just goes to show that these rankings are complete garbage.

The same can be said for NC State.

The reality is that we are paying the price for losing to Memphis.

So, what's UK's biggest win now...LSU or UF?

Yeah we are very much improved but still fighting perceptions from the first few games. Honestly I wouldn't have us top25 yet. But Keep doing what we're doing and good things will come. And heck, last night was fun to watch!

Those early games aren't just perceptions. They're part of our resume. There's no team with 3 losses in the top 25 other than #22 Penn St. and they've got "better" losses than we do. Really, they may not deserve that ranking either, but they're a name school.

id say there is a reasonable chance that MSU is the "real" rankings that come out this week .....the metric of who have you beat greatly outweighs who have you lost to....and when you look at the how they lost, this team could easily be 7-1

#20 Houston
#21 Coastal Carolina
#23 SMU
#24 Louisiana
#25 Fresno State

I don't think any of these schools would be 3-0 against NC State, Texas A&M, and Kentucky. I wouldn't pick any of them to beat LSU either for that matter. Now it's quite possible that SMU and Houston will beat Memphis later this year, and that's fine, but I think our overall resume compares favorably to all 5 of these.

Well, since you put it that way, maybe you're right and we should be in the #20-#25 range. Pollsters have gotten way too infatuated with mediocre G5 teams the last few years.

It's much better for us to not be ranked over the next 2 games... It puts a chip on our shoulder, and a false sense of security for our opponents. All that matters is where you are ranked at the end of the season. A lot of teams are going to lose in November / December / January.... If we keep winning, we will rise to the decent ranking.

I've never understood people not wanting our team to be ranked.

The more we are ranked the more coverage we get. People want us to get more respect but don't want us to be ranked.

Makes no sense. If your team plays a particular way based on their ranking in some poll, you've already lost the game.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t care much if we’re ranked or not because I agree with the people saying we play better as an underdog, but the “real” rankings are typically pretty legit.

It's because of who we lost to. We have too bad loses. One really bad. That does matter in the polls if you are a blue blood. Ohio state could lose to a bad team like Memphis and not get dropped.

I hate preseason rankings because some teams always are ranked high no matter how much they suck and a bad loss doesn't drop them

Those polls don't matter come Tuesday and the College Football Playoff poll always looks favorable on State. In the last five weeks we have played three ranked teams and one craping team. We are 3-1 with two wins against top 15. I suspect they will have us in the Top 25 or just out side.

I hear ya, but #20 Houston lost to a mediocre Texas Tech team that's probably not going bowling and has 0 P5 wins, much less 3 P5 teams that are currently 6-2.

#23 SMU did get a win over TCU, who is likely to finish 9th in the Big 12 this year, but otherwise has 0 P5 wins and a 2-point win over Louisiana Tech (hmmm...)

Coastal Carolina lost to Appalachian State and their best win is Kansas, while Louisiana has 0 P5 wins and lost by 20 to Texas.

Fresno State did beat UCLA, which is a decent win, but also lost to Oregon (no shame there) and Hawaii (worse than Memphis).

The poll voters just don't care enough to really dig into resumes. They just quickly glance at records at 2 AM after submitting their stories when they want to get to bed.

The CFP likes the computer ratings a lot - they favor us.

We are 28th in the FPI, which is one of the ones they use. Utah, Clemson, Iowa State and Florida are all ranked ahead of us.

I wouldn't be surprised if we are 24th or 25th in the CFP rankings.

Here comes Notre Dame after they've improved their record by beating the service academies and decent schools that are having a crappy year. Talk about the luck of the Irish. The only thing that's more amusing in the Top 10 than the fighting Irish is Cincinnati They are going to get the playoffs only to play Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, or Ohio State and get horribly smashed to smithereens.

Those teams are a little tougher than Tulane and Murray State. At least Notre Dame plays some major conference teams that are just having a down year.

Improvement was the biggest thing for me this season and we have improved since our first game. We still have A LOT to work on (looking at you OL) but I'm seeing gradual improvement across the board (except punter) on both sides of the ball. All I want now is to build on what we've done and make a bowl game.

Did we actually lose to Memphis, or did the SEC refs award Memphis the game by shear incompetent.

I think we have a play to our opponents level thing going on. We should of beat Memphis, but we also got screwed really hard by the refs in that game. That is the one major blemish this year and we were victims of one of the worst calls I have ever seen in a college football game. Most seasons I go ahead mark LSU and Bama as losses before the schedule is even out, so I don't feel bad about losing those games. I think we match up really well vs Ole Miss and Arkansas. Mainly because our D is good and our offense can put together long sustained drives and keep time of possession in our favor. On the road at Auburn is always a ***** though and they always have better athletes than us. I wouldn't be surprised if we finished the season 3-1 and wouldn't be surprised if we finished 1-3. Should be a fun ride the rest of the season. I have a feeling the Egg Bowl is going to be a good game this year.
