Was at the game and yes MG had a piss poor day to day the least …. BUT it’s one game and I think he will settle in just fine. The running game looked the best it has in a while with RB by committee … Xavier Williams is a load and he is a lot faster than what he has been clocked at. Let’s give MG some time as he was way too amped up and not making excuses for him but he needs to settle down or yes… he will turnout to be a major bust. Going into the ISU game go with your strengths and jam the ball down their throats and force them into mistakes and win the turnover battle. Not saying it’s a recipe for a win but go with the hot hand (s) and grind out some long drives with TD’s. This game is always close and I expect it to be a nail biter when all said and done. Go Hawks … trying to keep positive!

I to think MG will settle in. On the bright side of his play yesterday we finally have a QB that can run.

You are correct. Just look at the screen names of those complaining and it is obvious they are the same old posters that over invest in everything. You would think they were million dollar donors, former players, or have some sort of strong ties to the program with the foolish pettiness.

Then you have the new Cyclone chest thumpers with the ignorant name calling, zero knowledge of football while claiming to have coached, and believe their conference is strong. Interesting during the Texas game the other day the announcers said they had to learn to play defense when they joined the SEC. Gone were games in the 50's.

Iowa looked fine the other day. Posters claiming shoulder problems, players from lower divisions shouldn't have anxiety, and once again coaches that need to retire. Clearly the starting QB needs to relax and not expend needless energy before the game even starts.Led to de-hydration and cramps. Big dream come true for him playing in his first Conference game in the conference he grew up wanting to play in. No nerves there.... An early start will help that. Lester did great by taking the game out of the QB's hands and just play the first game for the win. Great coaching all around. Playing base defense to shake the defense into shape was good. Get guys on the field and playing a game.

The football team will be what their record says they are at the end of the year. I'll watch, cheer, and not get wound tight like this board...There are fish to catch and a cold one to drink. Ill let the players and coaches do their thing.

RBs looked good all game and the O-line was a big part of that. WRs were getting open. The defense put together a strong second half. They were mostly solid in the first half, too.

It all hinges on MG gaining command of the offense.

That's a mighty huge hinge. And you're assuming Iowa's defense can handle Becht, who went 19-20 on Saturday, something an Iowa QB couldn't do standing on the sidelines and playing catch with a manager. I'm concerned that ISU's passing game will put Iowa in a big hole early, and that Iowa's "passing" game will be no better than we saw Saturday. That ain't a recipe for success, but it looks like the most reasonable expectation. Sad but true.

I'd wager the passing game will be better this week than last. That's such a low bar anyone betting against it should demand huge odds. Will it be better enough is the question.

Becht is a fine QB, but won't be close to 95% passing again this week. KSU defense isn't special and he was only 50% against them. He's a career 61% passer, so he'll likely be somewhere in the 60s on Saturday. The good news is that he doesn't have last year's receivers, so I'm skeptical that they will put Iowa in a big hole early.

Sullivan ran pretty good last year. He also completed over 71% of his passes for a passer rating of 154, unheard of for an Iowa QB.
I basically repeated your post below except the most important part. Sullivan's accuracy as a passer seemingly went unnoticed. He also seemed like a good leader. It still perplexes me why they felt they needed to bring in another QB.

The KSU game is going to be a more apt comparison here - 14/28 for 183 in that one.

He has good arm, but he doesn’t have the biggest cannon in the world. Iowa prevents passes up the middle and gives away deeper sideline passes (think 10-20 yard outs on the far side of the field). I don’t think he has enough juice to complete those on a regular basis, I’m really not too concerned about that.

If he does end up dotting us up with those types of balls then he’s going in the top 10 in the next draft.

??? "Sad but TRUE" you say. No, Sad and your expectation. Theres no truth to something your proposing that hasn't yet happened. Maybe let them play the game and then you can be here Saturday afternoon analyzing his play.

Their receivers look very very good so far.

One thing we also all need to keep in mind this was the most vanilla game plan they were gonna display. I know MG should have made better reads and some better throws, but we weren't gonna see the exotics stuff yet.

Agree. The UA game accuracy issues were very out of character for MG. He will most likely come around.

Too many unknowns at this point to draw any kind of conclusions. I have found the observations of posters interesting who attended the game and commented on how nervous Gronowski looked coming out of the tunnel. Seems odd but a variety of factors could have contributed to it.

The pressure cranks up to level 10 on Saturday playing as an underdog in front of a hostile crowd in Ames. Mark better find his mental toughness quickly.

The dude wasn't nervous out of the tunnel. He ran to the north end zone when the swarm broke pumping his fist and was shouting to the fans in the north end zone. Prayed in end zone prior to national anthem. Was all right in front of us. No nerves there.

Can't comment one way or the other. Bottom line he didn't play confidently the only thing that matters.

Still have concerns that the shoulder got re-injured early on.
Given his sterling resume, even considering it was at FCS, and the dreadful throws we witnessed, re-injury is at least plausible.

Agree. We sit in NW corner. He did not appear nervous at all.

That’s the easy part…..then he got on the field against a defense
