We had a bad game. Michigan State's defense took us out of the game and we didn't play well. Didn't like the head hanging and bad body language, but I am sure that Coach will get us back on track. He better and quick. If not, it will spiral downward quickly.

The board has to give the benefit of the doubt. If the country believed in us and our fans don't, that is a major problem. I guess it is OK to dissect a game as it is going on, but what good is it for our so-called "fans" to bash the team and the coach and say we are not a top 25 team? Not that the committee reads our boards, but it is not a good look for the writers and coaches to think we are good, yet our fans abandon the team so quickly.

Best of Luck,
Groz

I am pretty sure fans across the country are going to look at the score and say that Rutgers is overrated
That’s why this next game is so important . If we are a top half of the league team and a top 25 team we win this game ; if not , it’ll be tough to argue we are either

Groz, do you really think after watching tonight's game we look like a top 25 team? I don't. A top 15 team doesn't **** the bed like we did. A top 15 team doesn't have a coach who doesn't make any adjustments to Izzo's defense and make the 2nd half even worse than the first half. Pike and the team need to really take this game as a challenge to the rest of the season.

What do they really want to be? A top team that competes night in and night out, or a flash in the pan where other coaches figure out our weaknesses and exploit them?

To lose to one of the worst Izzo teams in memory is a disgrace. Based on the way we played up to this point we should have beaten MSU by 15, not lose by 23. Shameful!

I’m most concerned about other BIG teams watching the film on what Michigan State did to us on defense.
Hopefully we do a lot of self scouting after this game . As I said in the game thread ; we held the ball for too long on catches and with Michigan state packing it in, it made it impossible to drive . We needed to either move the ball quicker with the pass , or drive on the initial catch . We stood and held on the catch making us very easy to defend .
Also , if you watched them off ball, what they did very effectively was bump our cutters and particularly our screeners making it hard for our screeners to create space between themself and the screen defender One way to combat this is to screen for the ball screener to create separation but I only noticed is do this once or twice . If you watched our pick and roll game tonight , it was basically non existent

What you say is true, but I did not see Pike make ANY adjustments to what Izzo was doing. Shame on him.

All true. We need to move the ball crisply on offense. Also, we must finish when we do get a turnover and get out and go. It is truly amazing how many of our shots get blocked overall near the basket.

Yes, very minimal adjustments and if we did make them, it wasn’t noticeable enough . I also think Michigan state was much too physical tonight on the defensive end for us . We just never got into a groove but that’s ok the coach to have counters to what they are doing. Hopefully these adjustments are made moving forward but won’t help us tonight

Shell, I'm still shaking my head. I watched two previous games that MSU played. They were NOT physical at all. In fact even the discombobulated Nebraska team showed more moxey than we did tonight. We just **** the bed. I'm really disappointed that Pike and crew didn't change it up in the 2nd half.

Oh I agree , I watched the whole second half against nebreaka and while that one kid threw some crazy stuff in, they got to the basket at will; problem was they couldn’t stop them . Nebraska definitely has better ball movement and it made it harder for Michigan state to be physical

Voters had MSU at #23 even at 0-3 in the B1G. If we blast OSU, we stay in the rankings, if anything MSU moves up. They will say just another week in the B1G.

lose to OSU and the freak out will be on

They better figure something out real quick. If I was OSU I would foul RU early and get into their heads when shooting those foul shots.
During winters I usually have two main concerns.Watching Rutgers miss so many foul shots and making sure the snow blower will work .One I can control but the foul shooting all I can do is shake my head.

We don’t have a pick and roll game just one of our many problems on offense

As a fan of another B1G team, I was surprised by the result. I figured it was going to be a Rutgers win and if Michigan State did win it would be a close one. But I didn't figure on a couple of things. That probably was the best defense I've seen Izzo's team play this year, he switched point guards and they seemed to get more flow (although they turned the ball over a helluva lot as well), and Langford shows signs of getting back into form. They will be a different team if he becomes anything like the player he was two years ago.

Rutgers still has a very good team, and I don't think anyone in the league looks forward to playing them. You can talk about adjustments and things, but don't overcomplicate basketball. MSU played great defense, and the Knights also had a bad shooting night. If you're not shooting well, you need to rebound, and Michigan State was killing you on the boards for most of the game. It's always hard to outrebound an Izzo team, even if it's not one of his premier ones.

And, as others have said, the free throws are killing you. Make just 66 percent of them, not a great percentage, in the Iowa game and you win. At one point they were 2-12 last night. A lot of free throw shooting is psychological. The coaches need to work with your big guy to the point he can at least hit half of them. You'll be going up against a lot of talented big men this year, and he's too important on the defensive end for you to be planted on the bench for long stretches. Some of your other guys are good shooters and should be doing better at the line as well. I don't understand how guys can nail contested three-pointers and then shoot 60 percent from the line. Doesn't make sense.

I've enjoyed the Rutgers story so far. Hope they get the train back on the tracks.

This, and to the less trained eye, RU missed a ton of lay ups and put backs. If those drop, plus the free throws and it's a different game.

let’s be real about that 2nd half of Nebraska vs MSU......

teddy Allen was unsconcious taking stupid shots that were going in. McGowins was getting to the rim. If Nebraska was my team I would go nuts. There is no flow to what they do offensively and they don’t defend and win 50/50s

This would suggest you are not convinced we will be fine. I get the general sentiment and think you are probably right but there is reason for concern since we know our team's weaknesses as well as some of our opponents.

lack of effort is a bigger concern and some questionable playing minutes. Team was not ready to play. Falls on Coaching staff for lack of effort and continued non improvement of free throws from last season.

I couldn't agree more. But still, MSU was not what we saw last night.
