We need to be a Nike team

I may be in the sunset years but the Nike logo seems to draw better type athletes. Moose was at a Nike school at Washington State so he could use his connections. Something to think about.

Players like Nike brand more than addidas.

Their walk around gear is better and more stylish.

Kids would much rather have brand Jordan's than some damn addidas... lol

I don't think it matters much now. However, when they start letting college athletes profit off of endorsements, it will become important. If the top recruits want a Nike endorsement, they will go to a Nike school. And the apparel companies could start steering recruits to certain schools that they have contracts with.

the AAU model. illegal, of course, but happens.

in this case, I'd say it's good we're an adidas school. we're very chummy with their camp directors, our coaches are always instructors and we even host one of their national camps.

adidas has plenty of resources. just ask rick pitino.

What you are saying is something I been saying for years. The problem is I believe Adidas pays Nebraska ALOT OF $$$. I saw something recently (not sure how accurate it was) saying Nebraska is making a good amount more money with Adidas than Oklahoma is making with Nike....and we know Oklahoma's name brand is at the top right now.

Do any of you have kids currently in high school? Nike still has a presence with high school kids, but a large number are wearing addidas yeezy and ultra boost. Nike's reign is leveling out. It would be foolish to switch to Nike imo.

no ... recruiting wins championships

in 2017-2018-2019 classes - 9 of the top 10 teams each year were Nike.

like it or not, uniforms - apparel and other swag matter to kids.
nike sponsors 65% of P5 teams, pretty close to this year's top 10 (7/10)

I'm not sure there's a strong correlation other than the numbers game. the same teams are in the top 10 every year, and likely would remain there if they wore burlap sacks instead of nike.

Nike seems to come up with better alts, Adidas seems to be behind and outdated. However, not sure that has any effect on recruits.
Here is the list of p5 teams who wear Adidas. The majority of teams who wear Adidas are G5. For that reason alone might help to update. We aren't in the best of company.

I think you are confusing cause with correlation. Those teams would be recruiting at a high level regardless of the sneaker company sponsorship.

This isn't 2008 anymore folks. Adidas's brand is far more attractive than Nike to the 18-25 age bracket. Nike has lost A LOT of it's appeal in the last decade.

Also not only does Nebraska get a ton of money from Adidas, they have one of the top Adidas reps with an office on site and are considered one of the brand's flagship programs with priority access.

Nebraska is also the host site of Adidas' national OL/DL recruiting camp. Switching now would be insanely stupid.

i get correlation doesn't equate to causation

but it is a damn strong correlation

since 2000 -- 18/20 national champions = Nike
since the start of the playoffs - 23/24 teams selected = Nike
last 3 recruiting class rankings 90% of top 10 = Nike

given the choice, which club would you choose to be in - the club that has all the playoff teams and all the championships or the other club

I realize Nike doesn't make them better - but Nike signs the top programs and the top programs don;t seem to be in a hurry to jettison Nike

will be interesting to see if other brands can break into more of the market as Nike is going through their own MeToo moment

I'm not saying we should switch - not sure Nike would have much interest anyway - we aren;t swimming with that many big fish with addidas so comparatively we probably have a better deal

1. Adidas is beating Nike on Wall Street And has been for several years now.
2. Adidas is certainly the brand of choice for the younger generations, although this 39 year old loves me some Adidas.
3. While Adidas is winning on Wall Street, Nike still owns North America. Their annual sales in NA are roughly $16B while Adidas is around $5B. Adidas is more dominant in the overall global market than the US market alone.
4. Just my opinion but I think Adidas is still viewed as a “Soccer” brand. I think soccer’s rise in the US has aided Adidas. I also think they have superior golf and training brand views. But when it comes to the “Big 3” (football, baseball, basketball) Nike is still king. Now that MLB just signed on with Nike, Nike has NFL, NBA, and MLB.
5. You’re right correlation is not causation. Market share drastically favors Nike in college football, especially Power 5 programs. From what I’ve read only 12 P5 teams wear Adidas. Nike owns roughly 65% of the P5 market, while Adidas only owns 19%. That alone dictates that Nike schools have more than a 3 times greater probability to win a championship over Adidas schools. When you break it down numbers wise it becomes even more apparent. 42 P5 Nike schools compared to 12 P5 Adidas schools. You drop down to G5 schools and the gap disappears. 27 G5 Nike schools and 27 G5 Adidas schools. Adidas has really made in roads with high schools and smaller universities and colleges, but when it comes to the big household names Nike is still the deal.

The Nike boss has his own college team in Oregon. There is nothing Nike would offer NU that would be better than what the boss is giving his own team. Given that, I would rather NU be a Levi's team than a team that is sponsored by a company that pays Kaepernick.

#TeamNewBalance who’s with me!?

Liverpool FC switched to New Balance in 2015. They finished Second in the Premier League last year one point behind Manchester City. They won Champions League last year and currently sit on top of the Premier League table with a commanding lead. Only a massive meltdown the second half of the season would prevent them from winning Premier League this year.

That said, Liverpool are switching to Nike in June.
