Watching the replay of the 04 State/UK game and I'm reminded of what a good team that was. Lawrence Roberts and Shane Power were really good that year and both were transfers.

Credit where it's due, AK does a good job with transfers up in Oxford. Henderson and Moody both transferred in and worked out well.

Why has Ray not pursued a transfer or two that can shoot the basketball? Surely there's an outside shooter at Illinois Tech that wants to play in the SEC.

I'm sure he's

probably tried on a few, but we are so terrible that's it's probably difficult.

Absolutely, some coaches are masters at this. Stans with Moultrie, L-Rob, and Power was great at identifying these players early on and locking them down before anyone else could get in the game. I don't know how he did it.

Think about the guys we lost that made big impacts elsewhere: Shawn Long, Robert Jackson, Gary Ervin, Reggie Delk, Ben Hansbrough, Rodney Hood, and Twanny Beckham**

Gary Irvin was on that 04 team and I'd forgotten how fast he was. I can't remember why he left but he'd probably be the best player on our team this year

We're trying to get a juco sg. I can't ever remember his name. Maybe hoops knows it. I have no idea how successfully we're recruiting him

Is not so easy in CBB. We had a recruiting network with Stans and he also worked the AAU system pretty well. You have to play the game, and I don't think Ray is doing enough to get the players to SVegas.

stans got that one awesome guy out of aau, sidney, i think. kid had a great jab.

To be fair, he got Sidney out of ineligibility - only to watch him take down the ship.

Deal with the headcases and win or take the scraps and watch whatever has been on the floor for the past three years.

Absolutely. He could run down the court, under the goal and trap himself quicker than anyone I've ever seen***

I hear the Renardo Sidney Show is really big in Canada.

But he was the most talented player ever to play for MSU. Too bad he had no desire to play up to his potential.

Talent and potential are not the same thing. He did have the most potential, but was nowhere near the most talented. His talent plateaued in the 9th grade. He got so fat and out of shape he was never able to improve his game.

I disagree. There are very few 6'10" guys in the NBA, let alone college basketball, who can pass and handle the ball the way he can, and he did it 50 lbs overweight. He also showed occasional flashes of incredible quickness and touch in the post and shot 40% from 3 while he was with us. No, we've never had a player with such a complete skill set at his size. It's a damn shame he couldn't figure out he could be an NBA superstar if he'd just exercised some focus and self-discipline.

If you are going to count Moody as a transfer into OM, then you need to count the JUCO players that have come into our program too.

Personally, I don't see JUCO players as transfers since they are playing at the JUCO level.

Exactly, the RSS was that talented, he was just lazy and did not have the drive or desire needed to use his talent.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but Sidney wasn't ineligible for any school when Stans got him. The school that he had committed to(USC) simply backed off of him because they were already under intense scrutiny from the NCAA at the time, and they had to cut ties because, quite frankly, they knew that they had cheated their asses off to get his verbal.

Your point still stands, though. Pretty much everyone knew that he was going to lose at least a year of eligibility, and we were one of the only school willing to give him a shot. We got burned on the Sidney deal, but the MSUs of the world either have to take chances on talents like that every now and then or else be happy with subpar results.
