Some guys do indeed stay. I think this year especially the kids are dropping their name in to see what kind of $$$ they can get. And we can match or beat that… or let them walk
Hope EJ stays.. if he doesn’t, we will get someone else
Some likely have deals lined up before they enter the portal.

Entering the portal as a bargaining ploy?

Just start a whisper campaign, letting them know that once your name goes in, you can go ahead and pack up your locker. Then follow through.

We’ll know Nebraska is serious about winning if they go shopping for a portal quarterback this year, Not that we’re going to replace DR, but the room needs competition. It currently has none.

Rhule has already stated that we’re going to try to land an experienced QB.

I think the answer is pretty clear that the coaching staff has no interest in providing competition to DR. That question was answered clear as day when they stopped pursuing McCord, and then not inserting HH this year when Dylan was really struggling.

I liked EJ as he just seemed to make a good play. He isn't elite but was good and fit what Dana wants. Dowdell was good in short yardage. We haven't had a 1,000 yard back since 2018.

KM wasn’t interested in coming once we had DR

Coaches blew it with EJ. Not happy about that.

I think EJ blew it. He was a perfect fir in DH's offense and was getting all sorts of touches. If he can't see a bright future for himself playing in that offense, he is blind.

There's a lot that factors into that. Did all the NIL money that was being proposed for the QB position go to Dylan instead of Kyle? We're talking $1M+ decisions being made by college kids. Let alone competition and playing time as factors.

I think there's some blame to go around on both parties. But Emmett also never really separated himself from the pack until the last few games of the season. He's not a near good enough player to be able to make demands imo.

Riiiiiiight...

Not sure what about that was even remotely debatable. DH used him well in both the run game and passing game. He had a bright future in DH's offense and now has to hope to find a landing spot with the same.

I think to many factors that are not known. On the flip side being KM final year did he want a guarantee at starting?

That's fair. Well let's hope it was worth it and Dylan sticks around and develops into the QB people think he can be.

I agree and hope DR does not go down with injury. No competition for DR in that room. We have no depth to step in.

At one point mid way through the season, EJ had as many yards as Rahmir with 40 percent of the carries and had the best ypc by 2 yards than the entire room. This is entirely on the coaching. EJ felt spurned and obviously he felt Rhule was in on it, and doesn't have 100 percent trust Holgorsen can protect him from Rhule or his position coach.

Offer Emmett the same Dowdell is getting...sounds fair....if Emmett says no....then we offer another portal back what we are paying for Dowdell....Am i under pricing or overpriceing when i say $200k for 2025 should be enough for Emmett?

If I had to guess, EJ knows that Dowdell is going to get at least a third of the carries and was probably looking over his shoulder at Parker coming in, as well as competition with some unknown from the transfer portal. He's a fine runner and catches the ball well, but hasn't separated himself from the other backs on the roster in the three years he'd been in Lincoln. And it's not like the competition has been stiff.

The biggest thing is, we have no idea how much these kids are getting.
I certainly don’t.
Maybe EJ is getting 50k and DD is getting 200k. Maybe Ives is getting 20k and he doesn’t even play at all.
I hope we get more transparency going forward. If there is revenue sharing, and there are rules and limitations with player pay, then all the players salaries should be made public

Ives isn't getting 20k. I imagine he's getting the cost of attendance and nothing more if that. I expect if we sign a transfer RB that Ives may move on. I do think Dana gave him a game rep or two but he's a non-factor.

rhule said he has 20 millon or so he can spend on players..
I'd divide that evenly between the starters on the lines, and kicker/feild goal...
thats 12 folks geting paid....

(thats 12 uninjured playing starters being paid, read fine print)

then I would direct the nil money to the rest...

this way your no glam positions are taken care of...

Have to admit I never heard him say he has 20M spending on players.

Cost of attendance above the scholarship is 20K? I don’t believe that but you specifically said NIL. Regardless, the cost of attendance stipend is not NIL Cost of attendance include normal expenses not covered by the scholarship and the NCAA approved that before NIL.

I think six scholarship RB's is enough. I don't see that position as a major need. If a superstar wants to come, fine. Otherwise, we're good with Johnson, Dowdell, the two new signees and Nelson, Ives. If we lose one or two to the portal that changes things, but I heard good things about the Nelson kid and I have a really good feeling about the two new freshmen.
Kind of agree. A bunch of road grader OL can make most QB's & RB's look pretty good.

I think there may have been some conflict between EJ and one of the coaches. Perhaps he didn’t want Satterfield to hang around.

I sure as hell don’t want that loser anywhere near the program

Wouldn’t trust satt to wash my car

So Carriker did share info today on the radio that EJ did enter due to Satt and that it could be that he stays but only because he likes Holgorsen
He felt disrespected and like he should have played more earlier in the year.

Well, I hope he stays, I think DH will use the top 2 backs a lot and ride them the whole season. We shall see

If that’s the case, and I’m not sure that it is, it’s better that EJ clears out. Whether or not Satterfield is coaching the tight ends or not it’s none of his business. The OC is now Dana Holgorsen. The guy who expanded EJ‘s role in the last few games.
