Being #1 was obviously toxic for this group so soon, so I'm not even worried about it. We'll drop like a rock in next week's poll, but that's fine. Seems some guys need to feel disrespected to find motivation. If so, our drop will be good. We may not make it back to #1 this season, and that's just fine.

I would be very surprised if they saw #1 again before the NCAA tournament. Slightly less surprised after that, but the talent is there to make it happen.

I didn't want it in the first place. If I had a dollar for every time a team got #1 and lost the same week....

Especially for super young teams. That, and coming off the MSU win can't do anything but make a team overconfident and think they are invincible. It was the perfect storm for an embarrassing loss.

Being #1 is huge ..We could have been there for several weeks and get the pub that goes along with being on top...Also, last time I checked the higher-ranked teams always get the top seeds which is what matters most..We need to be a 1-2 seed

That loss really bummed me. What I saw on the floor was nobody on our team has any business thinking about the NBA except maybe Maxey. Yep NBA loves a bunch of six foot 6 or 7 athletes who can't shoot. Yep they love bigs who can't dunk in traffic. Yep they love point guards who go 1 for 8 with 4 turn overs. Arrrrrrrrrrr Color me crabby after that loss.

It took the wind out of a lot of fans..We thought we had a title favorite...I see the same Hagans I saw last year in the NCAAT..cant make a shot, can't hit layups, is a TO machine..Maybe Cal should bring him off the bench and try that..Right now Quickley and Maxey are better..

Ranking UK preseason 1-5 only hurts us. Would never rank us top 5 preseason. Roster turnover. Dependency on freshman. Always seem to have an unbalanced roster. SEC road games are BRUTAL.

Games like Evil are must wins as far as seeding and i cant believe i just said that.
They rank us top 5 every year because that's where they believe we will be come tournament time.

They don't rank teams based on where they think they are at that time.

If they ranked us based on where we are in November every year, we would never have a number next to our name at the beginning of the season.

I don't get the defeatist attitude so many have in this thread.

No, it's not okay if we don't see a #1 ranking for the rest of the year. That just means with a weak OOC and SEC schedule, we wouldn't be good enough to overtake…… .who?

Every year I read comments on here about how college basketball is down, to which I always say "no, no it's not, if it's always down, when the hell is it up. Bottom line is, it's not up or down, it's where it should be… ." but this year, it truly is down… .way down. There are no dominant teams. So if we can't grab that #1 ranking again before NCAAT play with "THE BEST BACKCOURT IN THE COUNTRY", then maybe we're not good enough to be talking about a final four and/or a title this year.

If we're not good enough to get back to a #1 ranking, then name the schools that are. I don't see all these dominant teams that are supposed to prevent UK from getting back to that #1 spot.

Not sweating it one bit. It's cool and all, but we always work towards March. Every year under Cal has seen a huge team transformation over the course of the season.

Top 8 in RPI would be nice come March. Rankings till March are fan candy. I don’t give two damns about bragging rights. Utterly meaningless

As long as Duke is number 1, I'll be unhappy! [banana]

You mistake me for a one of these other posters that are down on this years team. I believe we have all of the pieces to win it all. That said, A LOT will have to go right for UK, and a LOT will have to go wrong for UNC, Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Michigan St, and Louisville before UK is allowed to take that top spot again. I’m no conspiracy theorist, but people love to slight UK when given the chance.

Unbalanced rosters come more from chasing ranking numbers beside positions, than in having high turnover.

Hagans isn't doing anything well at all. If you're not going to be able to score, then you have to be able to play outstanding defense to level the playing field, and be able to put others in position for success. As you're saying, the only place for him is the bench. Would he then transfer with what we have coming next year?

Michigan St, Duke, Kansas, Louisville to name a few. Their schedules are loaded with cupcakes and they have to lose for us to go up in the polls.

I think we’ll still be a solid top 10 team by the end of the season but my guess is it’s gonna be more of the same that we’ve seen since losing to Wisconsin. Missing one or more pieces for a truly great season. And yeah I’m pretty bummed too because after the MSU and EKU games I start to let myself think this team could be dominant. Guess that’s my fault for getting too high after 2 games. Especially when there were all kinds of warning signs even in the Michigan state win.

I think you need to look at their schedules again. All of those teams are going to be playing in tournaments here soon and they're going to take some losses. Plus, the BIG (Michigan State) and ACC (Louisville, Duke and UNC) are leagues that are tough enough fir those teams to end up with multiple losses in a row.

Heck, we can help our own cause by beating UL in Rupp.

Did you actually check their schedules before you posted, or were you just throwing that out there assuming that those schools have weak schedules?

Our schedule is ten times weaker than any of the schools you listed. If we can't catch those teams with the schedule we have, then we're doing something wrong.

I looked at the ones I mentioned, Kansas has the worst of the bunch.

We were exposed by Evansville, IF we are not hitting the 3 ball and not hitting a really nice percentage from mid range we are going to lose. The inside game will simply kill us. By the time you get to the E8, those teams are clicking on all cylinders. We dont have an inside presence thats ever going to click. E8 is the best this team can achieve and that will probably not happen.
