Who even with this putrid staff would have left you saying damn that kid can play.
He would have been exciting, he would have extended plays, he would have found open receivers and he would have driven like talented teams to us like Kansas crazy.

To bad he plays for Towson, he was told he was not competing for a spot on the depth chart here

He's only 19/28 for 276 yards, 3TD and 1 INT early in the 3rd quarter today.

Do you really want to go there, given what you see in QB development under Ash?

He wasn’t smart enough to recognize his talent

c'mon... that was one of my best lines ever...... solid, but subtle humor -- give me some credit..

I said after the Spring game Flacco should be in mix for starter or #1 back-up (and was totally ridiculed on this board for it....)

Sad but true and the thing is when we can see these things that are as plain as the nose on your face you are just seeing the tip of the iceberg. Multiply this by 1000 and you can start to see why we suck so bad.

Sad thing is there are no athletes whatsoever on defense. No one with speed nor pass rushing ability and this is supposed to be Ash's strongpoint. I can't see any promise or potential on defense at all

Don’t kid yourself, Lewis can’t scramble, but Flacco definitely can. Seems like a qb that can run would have been the obvious choice for a team with zero receivers, but what do I know.

Said he was our best QB in the spring game and couldn't figure out why he wasn't in the mix to be the starter. Was clearly better than Gio or Lewis in that game and while he didn't throw the pretty deep balls that AS did, he did throw well and also didn't throw to the other team and was very nimble.

We had a QB that beat Texas St. What is the point here?

Anthony Russo threw for 254 & 4 TDS for Temple...
Laviano threw for 401 yards and 4 TDs or lowly LIU Post. Ash and Mehringer threw him under the bus. Yeah, it's LIU Post and he did not crack the 2 deep at San Diego State. But seeing what we have seen, maybe Ash and Mehringer should have played to his strengths and he would have hung around in 2017 while they "developed" another QB.

Russo is only going to get better and better. Russo is also playing FBS football an hour from our campus. This was a breakout game for him, ECU has a decent defense. We will get to see him first hand and some of the other 3 star recruits grabbed by Temple that should be playing for us in 2020. By then we will be a senior and have another 20 games or so under his belt. Hopefully, that will be the 2nd year of the rebuild for the new head coach, not the 5th year of the alleged rebuild of the current coach.

It’s very disappointing. Temple has taken guys that we “didn’t want” and developed them. From speaking w/ South Jersey HS coaches I know that TU uses this very fact against us in recruiting.

Perhaps smart isn't quite the right word. Plenty of "smart" people do stupid things because they are so self-absorbed, so enamored with their own thinking that they worship their own mind and fail to see any contrary evidence to their stake in the ground position.

A colleague at a meeting once said to the group (and he was not being sarcastic): "I've spoken with myself and I agree with myself." Apparently, that's Ash's mindset too.

Defensive coordinators earn their bacon trying to cause turnovers. When they become head coaches they want an offense that wont give turnovers to their DC brethren. You end-up with these bland offenses that try to move without many risks (usually the occasional long ball). Ash team will never develop QBs imo.

I can't say I agree with this thinking.
He has NOTHING to do with the QB development....have you seen the last 2 games?...not a bland offense...if a QB and receivers were seasoned...we'd be lighting it up.....of course this is all contingent on our OL can opening running lanes and protecting QB....I just don't see that with the linemen we have going now

I think the same players over the next 3-4 years wont see much improvement. Its not just the play calling but the coaching during thew week. You see in the NFL every year that some teams can develop QBs and some dont. RU is closer to Rex Ryan's Jets than Holmgren's Packers. RU loses games Sunday-Friday
