And that's fine....you're entitled to disagree.

The NCAA is trying to do everything in their power....but their power has limits. UNC is just toying with them now. If the NCAA tries to do something UNC will happily take them to court.

And again, I'm not calling you a Duke homer or anyone else. I don't necessarily disagree with Bob Ryan, either....I just happen to think nothing will come of any of this. You and I will both still know they were cheating, but their hands will be washed clean.

It just goes to show how powerful unc is OFC

Well of course you can disagree too, its just a message board!

Ah Dukie Jay, court will potentially open up "discovery" meaning even more documents available and witnesses called. Court is a double edged sword they could easily fall on...Personally I would love to see it go to court!

OFC

I want to see it go to court. I want unc to have to spend and spend and sweat it out. Being from the "state" of North Carolina and as a tax payer I realize that I my taxes may go to help defend unc and yes know taxes aren't supposed to be used that way but with all the judges , attorney's and N.C. congressman that are unc alumni and a majority nothing will surprise me. In the end unc will beat the NCAA and will indeed get off scott free but the whole world will know they cheated and got away with it . Talk about opening up Pandora's box. That dirt that has been swept under the rug is still there. OFC

Actually dukiejay -- going to court would be the last thing that UNC would want. You would have to be assured that there is not ONE disgruntled employee, player, student, faculty that could be a credible witness for prosecution. AND be assured that your witnesses are rock-solid standing by their positions -- penalty for perjury is severe. No, UNC does not want this to go court.

Why wouldn't they have it? You can call them stall tactics, but if nothing happens to them in the long run, then how is that stalling? By suggesting they're stalling you're insinuating that ultimately something of significance is going to happen to them. I'm confident in saying that's not the case.

Like I said, shady crap happened. I'm quite confident Roy was aware too....but still, legally-speaking, these courses were accredited and were available to all students. Now trust me, I know (and so do UNC fans even though they won't admit it) everything wasn't on the up-and-up and stuff was going on behind the scenes, but I still don't think UNC is necessarily "stalling" as much as they're confident nothing can really be done to them.

Lastly, UNC will laugh at everyone again when this over and think they won. And while that might be partly true, they'll know they got away with it, too. I just feel bad for fans of Duke, UK and other schools who have invested so much wasted time into making it their mission to nail UNC. In the end, I think the joke will be on those people more so than UNC fans. JMO.
So you believe Barry Bonds' HR record is legit then?

Hate to derail more but not sure they have this as much under control as you seem to imply. Crowder coming back in the picture wreaks of desperation. Now I don't think they get what they deserve. Plus they already got by with most of the issues already. I think they have friends at the NCAA trying to get rid of this mess with them. I do think the coi wants to actually do their job.

They are having real nice discussion led by dr. steat over at thr about Duval being academically eligible. Really. Give me a break. With all the academic cheating their basketball players have done for years at unc they are actually arrogant or ignorant enough to discuss this. Now to me this is absolutely stupid and convinces me beyond the shadow of a doubt that many of them are institutionalized . They can't help it. they are unc fans. It's their nature. Bless their little hearts and feeble minds. OFC

You're missing my point. UNC hasn't denied their innocence. If, and I think it's a big if, this goes to court, it will be because the NCAA did something severe to UNC. Like I said, UNC has admitted guilt on some levels. What they're fighting, and what this all comes back to, is accreditation of the supposed classes. Everyone, UNC included, knows they did bad. They're just protecting their athletic department now....mainly their two cash cows (football and basketball). If this goes to court UNC will argue, like they're doing now, this is an academic issue....not an athletic one. While it's clear to see shenanigans were taking place, UNC wouldn't be fighting if their bases weren't somewhat covered.

Like I said, I'd like to see them fry. It's not happening, though. They'll lose a few scholarships and face some minor probations.

I wouldn't argue that. There's been desperation on their part the last six years. Where are we now? The same place we were when it started....except UNC has taken a bit of a hit to their reputation and has tacked on a couple Final Fours and a national championship in the process. In all honesty, 75% of college basketball fans (it's actually probably higher than that) don't know a damn thing about this. They know about the Final Fours and championship, though.

@dukiejay -- you might be right, but my personal feeling is "a few scholarships and minor probations" would blow up in the NCAA's face. They have already tried to put this thing to bed and no one is really letting them. Going to court would be a nightmare for UNC. I hope they argue it is an academic issue -- because it is -- if there were players that partook in classes to remain academically eligible then you'd have to look at the impact of those players that would otherwise be academically ineligible have on their record.

They are in a chocolaty mess.

I totally disagree about your 75% of fans not knowing about the scandal. Tons of ink has been spilled on this for years, and your figure is wrongly inflated...OFC

Maybe, maybe not. What percentage of college basketball fans do you think are rabid about the sport? 10? 20? That seems high. I don't think your everyday, casual college basketball fan cares that much or even knows.

I would say over 70% in NC are familiar w/the story given the fact its really where the conference has its roots among 4 schools. Again per the population ratio familiar w/ the story nationally, its transformed into the national news stories, reaching beyond simply the sports section.

When Roy goes to a MARCH MADNESS press conference he's DESERVINGLY been hit pretty hard w/questions about the scandal the last two years. Dan Kane was a feature story in the New York Times simply for his coverage.

Jim Nantz also made a reference (albeit brief) in this year's title game, and I love it when Charles Barkley jabs Kenny Smith about UNC players not going to class. I would say 50% minimum of the college basketball world are familiar with it.

just watch this dude in this highlight. The season will be fun this year. He definitely remind me of Kyrie.

I'm trying not to get too excited but after watching this...wow. This kid is crazy good. Crazy moves, but under control. Great vision. Reminds me of Alan Iverson. This is gonna be fun.....

Everyone in the public knows he cheated (ala north carolina) yet nothing was officially proven. By comparison (you apparently think uncheat's title is legit) I can only assume you think Bonds' record is legit?

Did UNC cheat to get this most recent title?
