if we are scholarship limited there are numerous other positions that are in greater need of portal reinforcement than TE -- I hope this is a walk-on position - concerned if we are giving a scholarship when numbers are tight to a Wyoming transfer who has never played the position

I don’t think scholarship numbers are a problem anymore but it sounds like he’s a NIL supported walk on. We haven’t heard anything about guys being put on non-football scholarships yet but I am certain there will be enough. I think we’ll have room for both CT and Smothers to return if they want.

I would like to be well below 85 to be given a chance to pursue additonal Dline, Oline, WR and LB help heading into fall camp

IMO it’s going to be tough to find guys late in the portal who would be better than guys already in our 2 deep.

Grad transfers can still transfer anytime. The portal deadline does not apply to them.

Still at 88/85 and the portal is closed. So 3 kids have decided to take the leave the team and retire scholarship option? OTOH, I believe kids that get their undergraduate degree can declare a grad transfer with entering the portal and may already be shopping around. So we may hear more names post-commencement.

We need to coach these guys up at some point. Can't keep expecting other teams to do it for us.

You’re assuming we’re looking at him as a QB. That might not be the case. The potential transfer QB from Arkansas went elsewhere because we only wanted him as a WR.

This kid is a pro style QB. You only do that with Dual threat.

Normally true. That said just because his team didn’t run the QB in high school doesn’t prohibit him from being able to run. That said, he looks like a plan B guy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. With the departures we might need to take 2 guys in this class.
