We cannot win with LM at QB

What a shame he hasn't been able to translate that mental mastery into success on the field in any of his starts at NU or Rutgers.

This was my fear with Luke, that his best future was not at QB but he would be pressed into service there because nobody else was any good either. He just isn't a good passer, there's no sugar coating it. He's a capable passer at times but he also makes a lot of just foolish choices.
The QB position will belong to Smothers from next year forward hands down.

Unless we move to an option type attack. AM has had many 300+ yard passing games. I can’t see Luke ever doing that. And we couldn’t win with AM. Just seems like the only way we can take advantage of these RB’s playing QB, without all the downside is to move to a run heavy option style.

A lot of us on here on the Board wanted Luke. Let's put that notion to bed. Luke is a very good athlete. He is not a Big Ten quarterback. Use him in special situations at Qb (Taysom Hill before Drew got hurt), run him in the Jet sweep, put him at flanker (Rich Bahe?) and WR. I really think SF should take a look at Smothers, too. If he isn't a quarterback then he will know if he needs to go after one. Adrian his too deliberate, bur he is better than Luke. The whole team is playing about as poorly as one team can.

Spot on? My what short memories some have.

AM is putrid, a bottom 5 quarterback in FBS now for more than 14 consecutive games. He cannot pass. We scored 3 TDs this year with him running the O and Luke playing elsewhere. One of those was on a 1-yard drive after an INT return.

This offense is vomit-inducing behind AM.

So now we’re anointing Smothers as the great hope? Verdu openly talks about his crappy throwing motion.
We should ride Adrian through rest of the year and see what happens

Yeah it's ironic that suddenly the answer to all of our QB woes is the guy who played Santa Claus in a loss to the same Illinois team last week.

Smothers is faster and quicker and has almost that same insane top gear, very very close but not quite that TM had before his injuries. Smothers is T-Mart 2.0 with an arm far better than Mac's.

I'm not saying your not correct sir but "faster" and "quicker" than the healthy TMart on the field is something I'd just have to see with my own eyes. Not even Frazier, Crouch or Gill had TMart's Warp-7 acceleration. But I do really, really hope you're right!!

And we have an even lower ceiling under LM. If we are going to win with Luke, we need an entirely different approach, one which rarely involves the QB throwing the ball. Except maybe on a play action pass, where the WR is all alone.

BTW, AM had 300+ passing and 100+ rushing against a much better Illinois defense last year.

Exactly. Martinez is not a top tier Big Ten quarterback by any means, but he's more of a quarterback than McCaffrey.

Until we have a line worth a sh*t, it doesn’t matter who is QB. We have a line that couldn’t stop some GPAC D-lines consistently. Seriously.

Perhaps AM would’ve improved after the NW game, in hindsight he was playing the 2 best teams in the B10. And our fan base insisted frost start Luke. Because we’re stupid and here we are

You couldn't possibly be more correct sir. That should be priority #1 by a country mile.

Didn't think I'd miss Vedral this much. Crazy that he probably transfered to a better team. Ugh. Good grief this program is a mess!

I completely disagree, and think this 'devil you know' attitude is pathetic

even our fans have forgotten how to win

I didn't say that, I said that he had almost the same insane top gear as Taylor did, not quite but very damn close.

You think LM is how we win? AM has never been that bad and against a terrible defense. LM as QB is NOT the answer.

Tmart sucked. You cannot compare him with the greats.

I wanted to see Luke get a chance. He obviously blew it and is not capable of being a starting qb.

The guy we needed to keep here was Gebbia. The guy can sling the ball and he's quick enough to have run Frost's offense.

I’m going to say frost is within a eyelash of losing the team, if Iowa drills us which is very possible the team will quit
You have no way of knowing that. People on here have claimed this after every single loss and it hasn’t happend yet.

To be fair, I don't know if Verdu knows what the hell he's talking about. He's already messed up two quarterbacks messing with their throwing motion.

No question, I even think Frost knew Luke’s capabilities and he has to call plays accordingly..

Or to prove to everyone that Luke isn’t the answer and would go back to 2AM
