Mississippi State doesn’t need to worry about realignment any more than any other non-blue blood.

We are a very successful athletics program:
-Reigning CWS champion*
-3 straight CWS appearances*
-5 straight Super Regionals*
-SEC baseball championship in last 5 years
-2 women’s final four appearances in last 4 years
-4 women’s sweet sixteen appearances in last 5 years
-2 SEC women’s basketball championships in last 4 years*
-SEC women’s basketball tournament championship in last 3 years

*-not true for any other school

And I know football pays the bills:
-11 straight bowl games
-ranked in CFP poll
-as good if not better than the majority of the SEC over the last 10 years

If we need to worry about realignment, then nearly every other non-blue blood needs to worry more.

I’m sorry but naming WBB accomplishments is weak. No one gives a damn about WBB when it comes to realignment.

Of course it counts for something, otherwise every SEC school wouldn’t spend money on it. You can argue it doesn’t mean much, but that’s not the point. The point is name the schools more attractive than State. It’s a short list unless you are including schools with less success on the field/court in the past decade. And on-field/court success at the end of the day is a barometer for athletics department strength.

I agree State is currently a successful athletic program overall. But if you think WBB means anything when it comes to realignment you’re lying to yourself. Football is all that matters.

You could make a case for MBB carrying some weight, but very little.

It is one million percent about football. Baseball and women's basketball carry almost zero weight in these discussions. I'm as happy as anyone that we won a baseball national title, but our Armed Forces Bowl win had almost triple the viewership.

I guess I should rephrase, it's one million percent about following the TV eyeballs. And what do those eyeballs care about? Football.

Agree. UK is probably pretty attractive because of basketball, but outside of them, basketball isn’t saving anyone from realignment

Every SEC school spends money on WBB because they have to. Its the Title IX cost of having a Men’s BB team. But aside from the fact that it plays absolutely no role in the realignment, those WBB accomplishments might as well have been 100 years ago because everyone knows the program is no longer anywhere close to that level since Vic left, and likely won’t ever be that good again.

The unfortunate truth is that baseball plays no role either, and even Men’s BB plays a very minimal part. Baylor might be about to find that out the hard way.

We can talk about other sports all we want but when it comes to realignment, nothing matters except football. Maybe a Kansas or Kentucky caliber basketball program adds to attractiveness, but that’s about it.

I’m saying we have an overall successful athletic program including but not limited to the most important: football. And that makes us attractive overall. Responding “but women’s basketball and javelin don’t matter!” makes me think you are missing the point.

Demonstrate you understand my point by listing schools more attractive than State. (honest question)

Cool. List all the schools more attractive than State. Because that’s my only point.

Having an overall successful athletic program helps, but the most important thing is revenue, which is basically some combination of number of fans and the intensity of those fans. As far as non-blue bloods more attractive than State or Ole Miss, assuming conferences dissolved and the blue bloods were putting together say a 48 team super conference? Ignoring blue bloods, UNC and NCSt. would both probably be more attractive than State. I'd say Ga Tech, with a 26k enrollment and being the second tier athletic school in a state with 10.6M people would be ahead of Mississippi State or Ole Miss. Ok St, as the little brother of Oklahoma wouldn't get in before one of state or Ole Miss, but would get in before a second Mississippi school did. Va Tech and UVA would be more desirable than State or Ole Miss.

Now there would be a lot of schools less desirable than State or Ole Miss, and I think realistically the only way we'd end up on the chopping block would be if we were in a KSU or KU situation (which we obviously aren't being in the SEC). If we did have armagedon where they tried to form a new league with just an eye towards revenue, there would be only one school from Mississippi, but I think we'd be in better position than Ole Miss to get the nod, although it'd be close enough that we could get out politicked and/or outspent.

We are definitely pulling our weight.

Our administration must be respected. Cohen on the D-1 NCAA Baseball committee and Mark Keenum is The Chairman of the college football playoff board. Let those two facts work your brain.

There are a lot of successful athletic programs that aren’t attractive realignment options. Baylor is one. Reigning Men’s basketball champion and also won multiple NC’s in WBB. Football team came closer to the CFP than we did, had a Heisman trophy winner, played in another NY6 bowl as recently as 2019, baseball has been to the regionals 3 of the past 4 seasons. And there’s a good chance they get left out in the cold because they just don’t have a ton of fans or national interest for anyone outside of Texas.

Our attractiveness as a whole is irrelevant. We are already in the strongest conference that continues to get stronger. That’s as far as it goes. If we were in the Big 12 instead of the SEC right now, there would be nobody asking us to join up except for the AAC or somebody like that. We’d be very much in the same boat as Kansas State or Iowa State. Fortunately, that isn’t the case.

This is about football money. They don't care much about baseball or women's basketball. We need to put more into our football program. We're at the bottom of the conference currently (with Vandy). We'll need to be better.

Everybody knows this. His point is that we are definitely adding to the conference, rather than only taking.

Nobody is getting kicked out of the conference. But if they were, you know who'd go before MS State and OM??

Mizz, Vandy, U.K., and probably Arkie -- because after a couple of years of Leach and the Lane Train, football in Mississippi will be must see sports t.v. And this is most assuredly ALL about football.

Nothing more than other teams couldn't more than make up. One national championship in any sport doesn't scream much. We were one of what, 3 in the country without one until this year?
