"Italy" (really all Americans not good enough for the real USA team) up 3-0 in the 2nd.

I still expect to come back and win, but if we lose, there's a chance we don't make the knockouts at all.

Now 8-4 Italy in the 8th. It would help to score as much as possible, just to weaken Italy in a potential tiebreaker.

If you're not watching, flip it over to Fox. USA down 8-6 in the 9th, with a runner on.

Ugh, loss 8-6.

We need Italy to beat Mexico tomorrow, or else for Mexico to blow Italy out.

Not that I care much. But seriously? We lost a baseball game to Italy?

They’re pretty loose with the rosters. Michael Lorenzen started for Italy last night and Aaron Nola goes tonight vs Mexico. Jac Caglione and Kyle Teel hit homeruns for them last night, both former 1st round picks.

All the more reason to skip this cluster-eff. That's not a true international team match-up. Good lord.

I almost splurged on tickets to take my son to the USA/Mexico game but after a loss to Italy glad I didn’t spend that money.

I love the WBC. The players that do go seem to be real into it, and who doesn't like a 17-year-old kid breaking Judges bat on a 5-4-3 or an electrician from Czechia throwing 4 shut out innings against Japan? Anyway, the last day of pool play should be great.

Venezuela vs. Dominican Republic - both are advancing, this is to win the pool. The DR lineup is ridiculous.
Cuba vs. Canada - winner advances, loser goes home
Italy vs. Mexico - Italy wins, the US and Italy advance. Mexico wins and scores 5 or more runs, US and Mexico advance (assuming no extra innings)

And here's the player eligibility stuff:

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
Each player on a Federation Team’s approved Provisional Roster and Final Roster must be eligible to participate for that Federation Team. A player will be so eligible only if:
• The player previously appeared on a Federation Team’s final roster at the start of either a World Baseball Classic Qualifier or Tournament round; or
• The player is a citizen of the Federation Team’s country or territory, as evidenced by a valid passport the player holds as of three months prior to the start of the Tournament; or
• The player is currently a permanent legal resident of the Federation Team’s country or territory, as evidenced by documentation satisfactory to WBCI; or
• The player was born in the Federation Team’s country or territory, as evidenced by a birth certificate or its equivalent; or
• The player has at least one parent who is, or if deceased was, a citizen of the Federation Team’s country or territory, as evidenced by a passport or other documentation satisfactory to WBCI; or
• The player has at least one parent who was born in the Federation Team’s country or territory, as evidenced by a birth certificate or its equivalent; or
• The player presents documentary evidence satisfactory to WBCI that he would be granted citizenship or a passport in due course under the laws of the Federation Team’s country or territory (excluding any requirement of the Federation Team’s country that the player would need to renounce his current citizenship), if he were to apply for such citizenship or passport.

The atmosphere of that game was awesome. Would have been cool to be at. I want to go to the first quarter final game on Friday but can't find a way to make it work time wise.

I’m not following your logic here? The USA/Mexico game was first and was an exciting game.
It was, but if I dropped $600 for tickets + other expenses then they lose to Italy I’d have been kicking myself, regardless of how the Mexico game turned out
