Don't know much about him, but he was an assistant at TSUN for 4 years and they made post season play all 4 years he was there (3 NCAA and 1 NIT). Seems to have had a lot of success at the high school level as the head guy. Does anyone know enough about him to comment on whether or not he might succeed as an SEC head coach?

Wanting malik?

Obviously wanting him, but after the shitstorm I've witnessed the last 2.5 years, no chance. I was just wondering if Brent was a good enough X's and O's guy to get a look. Seems like he would be able to recruit the state really well.

Not sure. I doubt he could be any worse than ray. I think we should interview Robert Kirby

I'd be 10000000000% in favor of going the HBCU route for our next coach. I just want the next guy to have ANY sort of legitimacy to him. I'd take an assistant at this point if he was #2.

I can't speak

to his philosophy or style, but he'd be VERY successful in bringing Jackson talent (which is pretty top notch) to MSU.

This is the most idiotic suggestion ever. Wayne Brent? Ha look at his records at JSU. Wow. Not to mention anyone associated with JSU athletics is a disaster. Not no but hell no. we could do better with canton academy's coach, and I have no clue who that is.

Also please name a Jackson player the last 5 years worth hiring a coach over? And Newman is one and done and with this rag tag bunch we still would be below .500 and he would be out the door. Jackson really doesn't produce enough d1 players to justify that. Fred thomas was one of the best in the last few years and he's a joke.

He was brought to Oxford to bring in the Provine Posse- Reed, Sanders, and the other guy. Hence the duration and success.

A SEC school hiring a SWAC /high school coach.? I think I've now seen the bottom of the barrel on message boards.

It was talked about when we hired Ray. Sean Woods was the rumored candidate then.

I have no qualms with hiring a SWAC coach if he's qualified. The problem with most HBCUs is that they're good ole boy systems and their openings typically end up going to underserving coaches. On the rare occasion when they end up with a good coach, I think it carries more weight than a 4th assistant from a 16 win Clemaon team.

Sadly most decent coaches at HBCUs never get the resources they need to succeed.

But yes, I'd look at a SWAC coach in a heartbeat, especially one in Jackson, MS.
