"I've been beating the bushes and turning over rocks to find out what's going on and the latest info I have is this...
The belief is that MSU is going to be where he ends up.
Sounds like he may have told the coaches there he was coming.
This is from two different sources and they haven't been wrong before.
However, that being said, I really am in the dark on this one. MSU was definitely in home last night. I have been trying my darndest to find out if/when UW was in home, but as of this post, I don't know if they were.
That's it..."

Here's to hoping they are right

It’ll be interesting to see how the spineless pansies who were ready to fold three days ago react to this. But he visited another school after coming here last weekend so there’s no way he will still come here1!!11!!1 Leach can’t ‘croot!11!!!1!

If we can pull a kid from California who could have gone to UW or most any other Pac12 school, Leach just changed the way all of us should look at QB recruiting. Any QB in the country will at least take Leach’s call given his track record, and showcasing your talents here in the SECW is much more attractive than playing at WSU or even TTU.

I have no doubt Leach will be able to recruit QBs and WRs. I just hope we will be able to maintain how we've been recruiting defensively. If he can do that he will have a lot of success here. But there are reasons for concern.

If you want to get a head start on being concerned over something that hasn’t happened yet, then go ahead. Obviously we will still need to recruit good defensive players. No ****. Compared to the history of the programs he has taken over, Leach’s defenses haven’t been that bad. Pretty much average to the historical norm at WSU and TTU, and several defenses were much better than the historical average. When Leach actually had a good DC in 2018, WSU had a historically good defense (by their standards). It just gets overlooked because of the Minshew stuff and the offensive success. It’s like some people think Leach wants to be bad on defense.

If we continue to put money towards good DCs and recruit how we always have under every other coach on the defensive side, there is no reason to think this staff won’t put a competent product on the field. If they give me an actual reason to think they can’t do it, then that will obviously need to be addressed. Until then I’m not going to get pre-worried over something that hasn’t happened yet.

I don’t think it’s possible for us to hire a coach with no reason for concern. Mullen worked out but at the time he was a guy in his 30s with no head coaching experience. That could’ve gone sideways, as it has many times for programs/coaches in that situation.

Get a load of this reply:

I really find it hard to believe that Costello is going to Starkville. In a million years, I can't see a Newport Beach kid that went to Santa Margarita and Stanford picking Starkville over the Udub education and Seattle. I was talking to a woman on the phone yesterday who is from around Orlando, but in Kansas City now. I speak with a Southern accent and spent 29 years total in Texas, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. She asked me why I live in California and not the South. I told her I can't stand the Southern or Texas mentality and will never live there again. The fact she even asked the question shows the stupid, brainwashed mentality of thinking awful places to live are actually great. That's the kind of reaction I'd expect from Costello. I've been to Starkville and there's nothing great about it. I'd rather live in Pullman!

It was my understanding Costello and Leach were already in contact about him going to WSU. So there was already a relationship. We are talking about a 9 month relocation. We have plenty of time since he is a grad transfer. I fully expect him to choose Starkvegas.

I could understand this if he had a few years of eligibility left.

He's picking a place to go for half a summer and fall, to play one season of football, and then go to the NFL. Someone with that plan is going to have different priorities than a freshman or even JUCO transfer.

Leach is the best example in America of a coach putting a grad transfer with one year to play into the league successfully with what he did with Minshew.

In case you haven't noticed, we are in the middle of a recruiting hot bed and have hotly contested recruiting battles with the blue bloods as well as Ole Miss, especially for quality DL, which are much, much more important here than anywhere else Leach has coached. Until he can prove he can go head to head with Ole Miss to pull a Chris Jones or Jeffrey Simmons, there will be reason for concern. I'm sorry that my cautious take was so controversial to you.

LOL, I have no problem with your cautiousness. You can think whatever you want. I just didn’t see the point of randomly bringing up recruiting defensive players in a thread about potentially landing the most sought after QB transfer in America. It’s like some of y’all are showing “caution” or “concern” over something that has not even happened yet. Like you are preemptively worried about another shoe that may or may not drop.

And FWIW, while Leach may not have been in many of those recruiting battles before, I assure you that Tony Hughes, Rod Gibson, Brad Peterson, Spurrier Jr, this new coach from Texas, etc are very familiar with what it takes to sign big time defensive players.

I live in Colorado now and I love it, but I miss Mississippi every day. My PAC-12 wife loves Mississippi, and asks me about the possibility of moving our family there all the time. The only thing stopping me is that I have a really successful business here. Also, my business partner was born and raised in Portland, and lived in Seattle. He has no desire to ever go back, and intends to retire in the south. One of the things he hates about the Pacific Northwest is the attitude above, although he likes Pullman.

If you don't have a problem with my cautiousness, why did you respond in prickish fashion? I didn't say anything controversial. Leach is not going to have problems getting QBs. Landing Costello is not a huge surprise. He was going to get him at WSU before he took this job. Questions about recruiting on the defensive side of the ball are valid, considering the conference in which we play and the style of defense we are required to play.

Change your damn tampon.

I'm not that concerned. State has had decent to good defenses most years since we hired Sherrill in 1991. That's under 4 head coaches and who knows how many defensive coordinators. Sirmon sucked but our defenses weren't horrible the year before nor the year after.

There seems to be a consistent supply of 4-star and underrated 3-star defenders from Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia. State has been able to get our share even when Bama and Auburn and LSU and even OM had good defenses. For 29 years we have consistently been able to recruit some of Mississippi's best defensive recruits. We don't get them all, but we have always been able to get some. No reason for that to change.

Lol that’s fine. They can stay their cuck *** out of this State. It’s already getting to be too many shitheads. I don’t want Mississippi to become like California and Washington. I don’t want people shitting on the sidewalks and plastic straws being banned. I don’t want housing costs and rent going sky high. I don’t want higher taxes.

And the living situation is great there as well. I mean, you can live next to Starbucks or literally in front of one on the sidewalk. If you like camping, Seattle is the place for you!

Exactly. He's doing a temporary relocation to enhance his employment opportunities. I lived in a crappy place for 2 years doing a postdoc, and that experience got me a great position in the place i wanted to live for the last 18 years now. People are stupid.

CO is awesome and is my home now. I love Mississippi, the people, food & MSU but never want to live there again.
The quality of life is so much better here in CO. I can be downtown Denver in 20 minutes or skiing on the mountain in less than an hour.

I love the Denver/Englewood area but I agree, MS will always be home. Although if I ever hit the jackpot then a house on Pickwick or Guntersville will be in the works.
